Webster's New World Dictionary And Thesaurus, (paper Edition)

Maybe I should've chosen a better headline because this dictionary is great for most writing purposes. I've been using a version of this one for probably 20 years or more for my students. It's designed for middle school through adult users but I've found it very helpful for even fourth and fifth graders. This newer version has thousands more entries than the older version in the same size book which makes the print considerably smaller which might be problematic for some users. The main reason I like this book for students is the way the thesaurus. is separate on the lower half of the page. Students in the process of building their vocabulary can easily locate and use antonyms and synonyms without reading an entire definition. Conversely, the definition and related information is easy to find and understand. The language is not difficult and the book is jammed full of other helpful information. Online dictionaries are not going to supply a wealth of information at your fingertips like this. I highly recommend this book for anyone in need of a dictionary.

Needed this for my son's English class. Is quite thick but is a great printing quality

My son, of 44 years old has ADHD. His letters to me over the last 25 years have been at 3rd grade level. Even with special ed and etc...his spelling and writting, not to mention understanding similiatries between words, was very poor. He requested a dictionary so, I sent him one. He's in prison and did not have one to use, nor are they allowed to borrow. Very strict rules. Since he got the dictionary, not only has his spelling improved, his writting,structuring the sentences improved, but he now has learned words from the Thesaurus easily, that help him get his point across. Just having to look for the spelling, seeing other words that he has not used before has been exceptional for him. I'm sooo thankful I got this book. He's taking classes for welding and also language and this has deffinately made a difference for him and increased his word power. Thanks again Amazon for making it so easy to get it to him.

My first one got sold by mistake at a yard sale. I was using Alexa, but she could not spell mortor. Ior it's size, it is the best.

I used this book with intermediate/ advanced English speakers as an ESL teacher. My fav feature is having a thesaurus listing for most words on the bottom of the dictionary page - this helps vocabualry acquisition. I've used this book on 2 continents, and my only complaint is that it's a bit bulky for mailing overseas or carrying to class, everyday. As a desk reference, however, this book is great. It also contains a pronunciation key for each word with IPA symbols. The definitions are simple and easy to comprehend.

Good Dictionary !

I was very happy with this dictionary and thesaurus in one. It is huge. However, I asked for it to be wrapped for a birthday, and had had several other items wrapped as well... The three other items were wrapped beautifully, one had a small rip on the corner from I guess being shuffled around in the box. This item, however, was a disapointment as far as the wrapping went. There was a HUGE rip and hole in the corner - I had to unwrap it. So I paid $5 and had to re-wrap it. Maybe if it was put in a smaller box and not mixed in with other products, that might have kept it safe. Definitely purchase this dictionary/thesaurus! It has sentence usage for the wordings, and so much more!
