good book. shows how to simplify bar chords and shows a bit of the harmony scales and basics on how to use them. one thing I would point out is there are a lot of styles of strum that are used in rock and roll, and a lot of other guitar playing. on that; one must experiment. some rock singers have their own style of strum they use.

I have been teaching folk-style acoustic guitar lessons for years, but recently have had several people come to me with their electric guitars in hand. I recently bought a nice Washburn electric (on Amazon!) so I could incorporate some electric guitar technique. This instruction book works well for me to learn and teach from. I've used Hal Leonard books for voice, piano and acoustic guitar pretty exclusively because I find the arrangements are clear and the lessons are well-organized. In this book the print is a little small to read, and the lessons are geared for someone who already has a working knowledge of chords and strums. It's a good next step, and the music samples are familiar.The CD is helpful to play along with and challenges you to keep the tempo up!

Good, I would recommend it for beginners. The one downside is that the book only has tracks for the last song of each chapter, so if you’re unfamiliar with the the other songs, you either do your best with the timing or check out Spotify (or similar). Pros are you’ll learn a bunch of fun riffs, and the song at the end of each chapter is pretty fun to play along to and practice what you’ve learned in the chapter(s).

My11 year old grandson picked it up and jumped right in. He uses it to find and try different riffs and styles. Very effective at holding his interest.

This book has tabs and exercises that get the absolute beginner playing straight away. From basic chords to familiar chord progressions and riffs from rock favourites. Challenging enough to keep a beginner developing but not so hard that your student feels out of their depth. Good selection of music too.
