Can kids operate this by themselves, or do they need adult supervision while playing?

Kids can totally set it up and play independently with this toy. That being said, it is a projectile, so a few rules from an adult are needed. We take it to the school yard near our house so it doesn't land on the roof.

They just sit flat on the ground. You can't really adjust or tilt in different directions.
