Nice high end Sous Vide circulator
This is a powerful and effective Sous Vide circulator. It’s very easy to take apart to clean, although reassembling had one piece stick but after 2 tries went smooth. It’s sturdy and works well. I purchased it at 50% off so it’s a great value. I used to have the Joule and I wanted a unit with the controls on the unit and the app as well. This one is great. It was easy to connect to WiFi and the app - just go slow and follow instructions. Be sure you are connecting to a 2.4 WiFi. It feels like it will last, but only time will tell. It’s larger than the Joule (diameter) and heavier, but when turned on it seems like the swirl of water if increased which means it will heat faster and larger amounts of water. In the little testing I have done (I cook daily and have had it a few days), it works great. The app has its pluses and minuses. The plus is that the majority of its temps and times are accurate. Be sure to adjust for thickness (the app walks you through that). The cons include you must subscribe a small yearly fee to use. Also - it doesn’t show different cook times for frozen vs fresh food (the Joule does and I use regularly). Finally it doesn’t have a full variety of foods like the Joule had (which was free). So there are only 5 to 7 seafoods in the guide, while the Joule has well over a dozen. Still good as it incorporates recipes from Chefs and solid web sites as well as community recipes. I am happy so far. I will update the review over time with anything else I learned.

Great Product and Great Service
I already had a Chef's Steps (now owned by Breville) Joule Sous Vide when I ordered this unit. I ordered the Anova out of pure frustration. We were out of town at someone else's house and responsible for cooking New Year's Eve dinner. When I went to start the Sous Vide I discovered that I could not get it to connect via WiFi nor Bluetooth. We tried everything. We finally got it to work but dinner was delayed over an hour which caused all sorts of other problems. The Joule does not have any way to operate it without either WiFi or Bluetooth connectivity, there are no manual controls. I was so annoyed that I ordered this Anova on the spot even though I knew I would not get it for a few days. I vowed to never have to rely on connectivity to cook ever again. This Anova unit also offers WiFi connectivity, so you can control it from your mobile device from anywhere, but you can also operate it manually without the need for any connectivity. In my opinion, this feature is paramount. I will never again be at the mercy of WiFi. Aside from that, this precision cooker works flawlessly. We have done everything from simple one hour cooks for pork tenderloin to multiple 13 plus hour cooks for prime rib. We make chicken breasts in it (which can be safely cooked to just 155º F) before frying, we've done pork chops, legs of lamb, octopus, eggs, fish, vegetables, etc. We use it about once a week if not more. After over two years of cooking and being taken on the road several times, the cap at the bottom of the barrel skirt came loose. I contacted Anova and in less than 24 hours they had resolved my issue by replacing not just the barrel but the whole unit. I consider that excellent customer service which I also believe to be a key feature. I highly recommend this product and this company.

A great buy, has made meals much easier
This has been a great item, controls are easy to understand and with WiFi I’m always in control. Cooked items taste so good, no noise at all.

Connected and cooking in five minutes
Others have had connection problems but another reviewer thankfully suggested turning bluetooth off before trying. I'm not sure if they saved me, but from the time the package arrived I was cooking in less than five minutes. I can't yet speak to longevity but others have been pleased, and this is why I went with the Pro model, which ANOVA boasts is overdesigned. It still lacks an integrated $300 UPS for power interruptions but of course I'm being facetious... power outs can still ruin a cook. This model requires a hefty UPS for its wattage. This was a replacement for a cheaper sous vide wand we've been enjoying for several years, but died mid-cook, which is a worst case scenario even worse than power outs. Fortunately delivery was overnight, so I just refrigerated the meat mid-cook until delivery. That's another reason I went with the Pro. Already experienced, I found the app intuitive enough so there was no learning curve. The recipes are consistent with my own experience and the app let's you keep a record if you buy into a $10/year subscription. It'swell worththe nominalprice. The Pro appears to be solid and the clamp is much better than my old clipped wand, which broke apart several months ago requiring an ill-fitting aftermarket clip. Speaking of power interruption, there's no on-board solution since SV machines are programmed for manual reset after one to prevent food poisoning on long cooks. Sounds nanny-ish but if they think so, but even a water level drop while inspecting a bag requires a refresh, so always mark your end-time or set an appointment so you won't get confused on a long cook. I thought this upper end model might ease this inconvenience but it's unavoidable.

Very good unit
An older Anova unit I had failed after several years. I did get the life out of it I expected though. I waited for the pro model to go on sale as I do a lot of sous vide cooking. The sale price made the unit well worth it, the full price I thought it was a bit too high which is why I waited. For the most part the unit works as it is described and works well. The reason for the four-star rating is this: I had read that there were several issues with the app that it uses. I called Anova and they assured me that the app was going to be fixed and fixed within a week. When I receive the unit, (at least a week later) the app was still not working. I called again and they assured me that it would eventually start working. After several weeks it did start to work as they had updated the app with whatever they needed to do. The other minor issue is that this is a reasonably powerful machine at 1200 watts, and I think that it does take a little longer than what I expected for a large vessel to get to temperature. But once at the temperature it works really well. The primary competitor for this unit is the Joule that comes from Chef Steps. I did consider that unit as it is equally as powerful and has a much smaller footprint. But the issue with the Joule is that it will only run through an app. The Anova can be set manually. Although I do not mind using the app to set up and run stuff, sometimes it's just a lot easier to go over and turn the machine on. And of course if there's an issue with Internet or routers etc. you're out of luck. Overall, this unit is a really good piece of equipment and if you are into sous vide in a big way it will work very well for you.

Reliable. Smart Features are Fast.
This thing just plain works and does everything it's supposed to do. It moves the water and heats it quickly. I'm a "smart device" fan, in and out of the kitchen. A lot of other "smart" cooking devices are slow and clunky to get them to work the way you want them to. You say, "cook this at this temperature for this amount of time," and the thing hesitates or the app is horrible. This device's app is refreshingly easy to use and quick to respond. So that's a very good thing. Most apps for most devices are marginal, at best. Prior to purchasing this, I read reviews about how easy the knobs break. I hesitated to buy based on this, however I ultimately decided to pull the trigger on it due to the brand's reputation overall and my research into all the different options. So here's the deal on the knobs, if you're worried about it: They are PLASTIC. You have to be careful and gentle with anything plastic. You can't go cranking them down super tight and expect them not to break. This is true not only with this device, but with anything made out of plastic anywhere. Just turn them until they're barely snug, and they will hold everything in place without breaking. Easy. But, in case you're not wise enough to realize that plastic is brittle, just read the manual. It tells you what you should already know: do not over-tighten. It's possible that other reviewers got a bad knob, or something, but seriously. Plastic breaks. Don't over-tighten and you'll be fine. This is a great product. All of that said, I don't love that they used plastic for this stuff for that reason. And every time I use it, I'm worried that I'm going to break it or that I'm not tightening it enough and it's going to tip over and fall in the water, or something. But I've never had a failure yet, and I just barely snug the knobs. It stays in place surprisingly well. So, unless, in all my paranoid carefulness, the plastic knobs do break, this remains a five-star product. If they do break (and I'm very careful about it), I'll come back and update this review. But until then, I don't think anyone should worry about those other reviews. I'm betting it's more user error than it is a flaw in the product. This thing is great.

Good for pasteurizing eggs
I pasteurize eggs with this device so that it is safe to eat them raw. The operation is very easy and temperature is almost constant with occasional fluctuation of +/- 0.1 F, which is good enough for pasteurization. The telephone app can be improved. I hope that the app notifies me 5 min. before the process ends.

Don’t waste your money buy the cheaper options which actually work.
I want to start off by saying I have an older Anova classic and a joule. Both great machines. Easy to use etc. I was so excited when the Pro was released as I’ve been doing more and more big cooks and the extra wattage and durability sounded great. The short summary is the wifi doesn’t work and Anova support has a horrible. Both in response time and quality of actions. Finally gave up after the second machine also didn’t work. Stick with the Nano or the regular machine. Don’t waste your money on a Pro. A more detailed explanation follows: When I received the item the product looked awesome but when I tried to connect it my phone that’s when the trouble started. At first it connected quickly and then asked to do an update. Logically that’s the thing to do. Once that completed nothing worked. I tried everything. I first got this in December so I went to Anova’s website to see what support options there were. Well what a joke. The site literally said the app doesn’t support the machine but an update was forth coming but you can join the beta. Ironically I was on the beta and the beta site and it was closed because the production app had already been released. This set the tone for the rest of my “support experience.” I tried calling the support number numerous times. No answer. Leave a voice mail. I think that in and of itself is bad but hey it’s the holiday season. So I thought I’d try the “support” chat. Now that is what is truly a joke as quite literally the responses to the chats were DAYS APART! I’d be given instruction that literally don’t work. Such as how to reset the firmware. The the more obvious and basic commands like delete the app, restart the phone, reboot your router. I went so far that I tried with two different model of iPhones on different iOS versions, an iPad and even an Android phone. Nothing worked. Mind you each response and next step would take at least 24 hours or longer. Finally they admitted defeat and said return it. I mentioned politely that they may want to update their site to reflect the app has been published and maybe offer some support options and things to try. Well Amazon , as awesome as they are, quickly sent out a replacement. A couple of weeks go by (as I was frustrated). Then I finally opened the replacement. EXACT SAME ISSUE. Connect the app, update the firmware and cannot connect to the wifi. This time I go to the website and it has a plethora of things to try such as: disable the 5ghz wifi, bring the device 5 feet from the router, reboot, reset. Each and everyone dutifully tried and failed. I pull out my old Anova (which the tech suggest I delete from my phone and account in the previous support engagement) and get it connected in about a minute. Just like the instructions said. This leads me to surmise there are a few potential issues. 1. The firmware/technology on the Pro is very different (which seams weird if the fundamental functionality is the same just beefed up components.) 2. The second machine is bad too or 3. It’s a got poorly designed software, app, or firmware that just doesn’t work. Regardless after the previous round of support was so painful (also only open 8-5 Eastern) I’m no longer wasting any more time. Quick call to Amazon’s support. Return complete and I’m cooking my next Steak with a Joule. Highly recommend avoiding this machine.

Great product but does not work in the UK
This item is actually really good quality. Solid and looks fantastic with fantastic reviews BUT, i was unable to use it as the plug it came with is a USA plug and, the item is made for USA 120V and not UK 240V hence the 1 star rating. This means that you have to also purchase a separate transformer which i was not prepared to do, and so the item was returned (currently awaiting the refund which Amazon tell me is being processed). I was very disappointed as i did a lot of research on sous vide cookers and this was highly rated! The issue i have is that Amazon UK is advertising this and do not make it clear enough that it will not work in the UK. I am thinking why even advertise this in the UK if it is not made for the UK market - seems silly to me.

Best Way to Cook Meats. Period.
Migrated from a smaller unit to the Pro and it runs more quietly and creates more water flow than the lesser model. WiFi make this an even better tool as any warnings or notifications are sent to your phone for attention if necessary.
