Does this work for root aphids?

It works great on root aphids if you use it as a foliar spray. I have spoken with many people who used it unsuccessfully as a root drench, but I have used it many times as a foliar and it has always done a great job at eliminating root aphids. It is systemic so it will make its way throughout the entire plant.

where does it say whether pellet or powder?

It doesn't say powder it's little white pellets and you can put them in some water so they can desolve and spray where your going to spray...I hope this help you...

Do you have to spray it? or can you mix with water and water the (very large) houseplant with it?

Yes, it smells like the other responder mentioned, but no worse than sevin, malathion, and many other insecticides.  I don't think it would be as effective used as a soil drench than as a spray.  I assume you're dealing with mealy bugs or spider mites, which are the most common bugs on houseplants.  Whatever you use, you need to spray the undersides of the leaves as well as the tops.  Even though it's a systemic, it would take much longer for it to work it's way up from the roots and could be much less effective.  If you'd like to try a more ecological alternative, try spraying with hydrogen peroxide or rubbing alcohol.  Then if that doesn't work, bring out the "big guns". If you use the Orthene on a houseplant, take the plant outside in the shade to spray and don't bring it in until it dries.

Would this work against Psyllids affecing boxwood shrubs?

Looked at the insert that came with it and it did not show Psyllids.
But I agree with Doug. It should work. I use it on thrips and scale and it works very well.
