It is printed backwards and upside down. If this was in another language i think it might be ok but clearly English and the CISSP do not get along. Review: Good book with bad cover - I have ordered two items of this great book. It has very valuable information that are not even helping me to prepare for the exam but to get solid knowledge in information security field. I should have rated this book as 5/5 but unfortunately, I received a bad version of this book which stressed me off each time I opened the book. The book's main cover is flipped over so each time I open the book I find myself reading a book head over heels.

Exhaustive, and Exhausting (Test software is useless)
Having used both this book and Eric Conrad's 2nd Edition to prepare for my CISSP Exam (pre April 2015) I have to say that Harris knows her stuff but could benefit from an editor, or perhaps rebrand the book as a cumulative career guide. If a new edition is released, but that now. As an exam preparation devices, the main (1400 page) book simply does not work on its own, unless the intent is to have 12 months+ study prior to taking the test. The true strength of this tome is in the exhaustive comprehensive coverage it provides over all 10 domains within the CBK. This is a perfect career guide, and should live on the shelf of your office/cube as a reference point when devising strategies, planning audits, or doing any consulting/reference work. It also ties in really nicely to my second point, below- The Practice Exams book is where the money's at- This is where the meat of test prep lives. Take the practice exams and see how you do. Use the handy reference points to correct your errors and bone up on areas of improvement. Use this as your primary test prep tool. Add-ons: The attached testing software on the CD-ROM is garbage, but the supplementary preparation material is excellent. Total Testers offers a buggy, incomplete and poorly coded testing tool that not only contains information that directly conflicts with the book, and its own internal knowledge, but does the user a disservice by messing up the Pearson VUE simulator. Also included: The PDF ebook would've been nicer in multiple formats, but it works. The PDF glossary is really solid and invaluable for test prep. DVD is nice to have but you can find Harris's lectures online (legally) fairly easily.

The best CISSP book, and reference All-In-One by the one and only late Shon Harris. Wordy, but thorough.
Shon Harris is a great author, and this is the best CISSP reference material I have found. The book does prepare you for the exam, but does not replace actual work experience. It is a great reference to keep as the CISSP domains are not changing far from this text. I highly recommend this book as a reference, and as a study source, but not the only means to the CISSP exam preparation. The book is very wordy, and there is more far information mentioned than covered on the exam. The encompassing CD offers PDF version of the book as well as a bank of practice questions to be taken on a computer simulating the actual exam. Shon Harris is a well known, and reputable security expert, for those with the minimum 4-5 years of work experience or less I recommend this book and a CISSP boot camp. The accompanying practice question book is nice to have for those who want a paper exam practice experience. I did notice some erratas which you can find the corrections on Clement's CCCure.org website where he has Free Practice Exams and a CISSP forum.

Excellent paperweight
Now that I'm done with the class, it makes an impressive bookend on my shelf and an even better paperweight on my desk. Already out of date, so there is that as well. Very informative, and very useful for the 4 months I was in class, but after that, and after realizing that I couldn't get the CISSP without jumping through flaming hoops, I now use it to prop up my other books since it's heavy enough to stand on it's own.

Great Book But Does Not Adequately Prepare You For The Exam
I bought this book and some of Shon Harris training videos on Logical Security. I have to say that she does a very good job in all of her material explaining and diagramming the concepts that security professionals should know about. With that being said, the practice questions in the book don’t adequately prepare you for the test and I subsequently failed the exam. A lot of people who are new to the field will come across this book and get infatuated with the concepts, especially in telecommunications and cryptography, and assume that the test will test you on how much you can recognize a concept in a scenario and how much you know about the concept like I did. The test does not test you on how much you know the concepts but how much you can apply the concepts from a security perspective. You have to really want to become an Information Systems SECURITY professional as the title of the certification entails. I’m pretty sure some of the concepts from CISSP overlap in other ISC2 and ISACA certifications. You have to really want to become the title of the certification. You have to be principled in the ways that the certification grants you, and only you yourself know that. I recommend that you look over ISC2’s website or ISACA’s website and get a feel for some of the domains that their tests offer before you shell out hundreds of dollars in taking a test. Maybe you’re learning style is different because I’m more of a trial and error type of guy. The major problem with Shon Harris book is that a lot of her sample test questions test you on how much you can recognize or know a concept and that’s not what’s tested in the exam. In summary, I recommend that you get “CISSP Cert Guide” by Troy McMillan because it’s a lot shorter and it explains the concepts to the point.

The Best CISSP Book/Test Combo
I wanted to be sure I had what I needed for my CISSP test so I purchased 4 different prep books. I wish I could send the other 3 back without paying a restock fee. The book is clearly the best-- mildly entertaining and thorough. (Although from what I saw it's about time for a refresh on some of the material.) One of the most attractive parts of this combo is the automated testing program included on the DVD-- it has 1200+ test questions with explanations for each answer (why the "correct" answer was correct and why the others weren't). It also looks and feels quite similar to the actual test format. I think I probably learned more from taking the practice tests than reading the book alone. Side note: In addition to reading through my notes the day before the test I also read Eleventh Hour CISSP, Second Edition: Study Guide by Conrad et. al. It wasn't enough to use alone, but it was a great (brief) summary of the material.

Get your CISSP & Guns!
Legit source for studying for the CISSP, also legit for weight lifting. A word of caution, I had one of those round particle board nightstands, made the mistake of setting this book on it, the weight was so great it collapsed.

Must have for security professional
I can't start describing how pleased I am from this book. The book is written in a very smart way, despite the complexity of the subjects Shanon Harris is able to describe the subject in a very easy and "light to read" way. Indeed a must have for whoever is a Security professional or is stufying for CISSP
