Can this be used as a oil temp guage. I'm only asking because I couldn't find an oil guage that read in deg F

As long as the gauge reads in the temp range that you want, I don't see why the sensor wouldn't work. It's immersed in a liquid, so shouldn't matter whether coolant or oil.

This is going on a 1973 bug what is the limit on how hot the gauge can go? I've read 3?? can you please just let me know normal temp is 300 to 310

No offense, but a '73 bug is an air-cooled engine. This is designed to monitor the cooling water for a water-cooled engine, and it has an alarm at 212 degrees F. On an air-cooled angine, you can only monitor the oil temperature or the cylinder head temperature.

Why does the temp stay at 104 ? I checked it with a lazer thermometer and it reads higher than that

That is the starting reading 104 does not read lower
