Leak test die - it does detect leaks but you need to know what you are doing
This does detect very small leaks. It is used for eliminating possible causes. My pool has 2 lights, 2 skimmers, 3 jets, one suction line and a drain. This product eliminated all but one. Clear pull of die into the suction line. Helped me identify a passing valve and a leaking skimmer pipe.

I wish I'd returned this after reading the label and before I used it.The directions for use say "Apply a small ribbon of dye within 1/4" of suspected leak".If I knew within a quarter of an inch where the leak was I wouldn't be buying a leak detection kit! In fact if I knew within a quarter of an inch where the leak was I'd just stick a 2 inch patch over the whole area.If you try to carpet bomb a larger area then the dye just disperses in the water so no use trying that either. Do you know how many 1/4 inches there are in a 12 foot above ground pool? Answer: A lot!I used the entire bottle of dye going round the pool small sections at a time and still didn't find my leak. So, in summary the kit is great at finding leaks if you already know where they are.

Only took a few minutes to show me which pool inlet has a leak.
Works well. I saw some reviews saying it disperses too much, but that wasn't my experience at all. In fact I found that you can create a very intact thin 'worm' of dye if you dispense it in a very gentle way, moving the tip of the dispenser slowly back through the water as you go. But you don't actually need to do that - even just a little squirt that spread out a bit was enough to show that water was clearly moving towards one of my pool inlets, strongly indicating the likely source of my leak.
