Darwish is the father of a Palestinian Contemporary Poetry. In the presence of his poetry, I call on solidarity and respect, because i am a child from the same land and poetry is runs in my wounded veins. Yes...they are all wounded...we are all wounded..yet. Note to the excellent job of courage Ms. Catherine: How can we translate beauty in?? Near impossible,but what you have achieved Ms.Catherine is you translated Serenity, and very well in deed.

I’ve been reading Mahmoud Darwish’s poetry in Persian for a long time, but I decided to try an English translation. Unfortunately, this was one of the most disappointing translations I’ve encountered. The essence and soul of Darwish’s poetry feel completely lost. The language lacks rhythm, and the word choices seem careless and uninspired. As a result, the beauty and emotional depth that define his work are simply not there.

Cada poema o reflexión trae una sabiduria concentrada sobre el sentido de la vida y como caminamos en el sin sentido acercandonos a la muerte en vida. La destrucción de la vida no solo implica la muerte sino la devastación y ruptura de relaciones con la tierra, el territorio, la identidad, los objetos queridos donde reposan los afectos y poemas. La esperanza y renacimiento en las nuevas generaciones esta ahi, pero amenazada. Los jóvenes no pueden perder su sensibilidad y tornarse como piedras, sino ser como los árboles, generosos, solidarios, flexibles ante las tormentas con la cara en alto, como esos olivos ancestrales. Indispensable para situarse en la locura y caos destructivo de nuestro tiempo.
