4-The-Birds Repellent Gel

This worked! I I used duct tape to tape a plastic painters drop cloth onto my rooftop terrace, and then I spread the product on the plastic tarp. After a week the pigeons were gone. I left the past tarp on the terrace for a couple of weeks and then pulled it up and threw it away. It is been a month, and so far the pigeons have not returned.

Works just as advertised.

After a full season last year of great luck with no Barn Swallow nests on our porch (after my husband applied it), I thought this was a great product. Wrong! The day before yesterday I noticed a Barn Swallow didn't fly away when I walked onto the porch. It was stuck to my column! I went inside to get a step stool but by the time I came back outside it was gone. I thought it flew away. Yesterday one of my kids found the little thing in our yard, wings completely matted together and unable to fly. She brought it inside and I attempted to wash it with blue dawn multiple times and scrape off the glue from it's wings with my fingernail. It just wouldn't come completely clean and the poor thing was still unable to fly. I ended up taking it to UT Vet school last night where they connect wild animals in need of care with wildlife rehabbers. No idea if the bird will ever be able to fly again but I can assure you this stuff is coming off my columns today! If I had known it could have disabled the birds that land on it, I would have never used it. This products is as bad as glue traps for mice. Never again and I am so disappointed in myself for not realizing the harm I was inflicting on our song birds. The word "gel" in the name/description should be replaced with GLUE. :(

I had a problem with woodpeckers or other birds attacking a particular trim board on my house as I was trying to sell. The bird had pecked at least a dozen holes in the board that was highly visible. I filled them in with putty and painted but the bird came right back. So, I bought a tube of the bird repellent gel and smeared it all over the board after repairing for the second time. The gel is really thick and kind of hard to smear with a putty knife but it can be done. It is transparent so it is not really visible on the house unless the sun hits it just so. The bird hasn't returned but lots of bugs have landed on the gel and they stick all over and can't get away. Now we have a hefty layer of bugs but no pecker holes. I guess that is a problem one needs to live with but it isn't ideal.

I know this gel is branded and advertised as a "bird repellent", but I had read that it is VERY effective in deterring squirrels from reentering chewed holes in the house. I have tried multiple "plugs" (chicken wire, foam spray, styrofoam, aluminum patches, rubber plates, etc.) As a last resort, I bought this product, climbed up to the house eaves (32 feet) and coated the opening with the gel. In the past, the squirrels try to nest in the late September through November timeframe---this time, not so much. In fact, daily observations have produced ZERO squirrels. I may have to apply new gel coatings periodically, but so far it really works!

This really worked! It solved our barn swallow problem!
