I have a badger 5  it is leaking water at bottom  near reset bottom plus does a new one came with a ss ring  for inside the sink

We have the same problem. Our disposal is an In Sink Erator Badger 5 that was installed 10-4-05. We just discovered that it is leaking at the same place your unit is leaking. It came with a 2 year warranty, and is now almost 8 years old. I have not yet called a plumber. My best guess is that we will have to replace it, unless someone provides a better solution to the problem. For info - Our cost for the unit in 2005 was: Parts - $84; Labor - $105.50; total cost - $189.50

Question 2

Can someone tell me if this Badger 5 disposer is simple to replace (with my old broken Badger 5)? 
(i.e. Can I do it myself vs. hiring a plumber )

Very easy if you can do basic handyman work.

1) unplug old unit, and disconnect hoses 
2) turn the metal collar using a screwdriver for leverage 
3) unbolt tie drain elbow from old unit and remove power cord (trap door on bottom, unscrew wire clamp from old unit)
4) install cord in new unit and install elbow, use new gasket from box on the elbow, since you have it.
5) Position new unit under sink and lift it into existing mount. Note- it helps to have an extra set of hands but I did it alone. You can use silicone grease (get it from pool supply store) to help the rubber gasket mate. Make sure all three tabs are on the ramps.
6) Plug it in

Total time: 1 hour if you are taking your time, 30 minutes if you know what you are doing

If no power cord is included, how do I plug in the disposal unit?

The power cord is not difficult to replace at all.  Take the cord off the old one and simply install on the new one.  It doesn't take a trained electrician to do this.  If you have ever installed new light fixtures in your home, then you can install this power cord onto new disposal.

Is this Badger 5 compatible with the Badger 5 model 5-81? Same size and fittings?
