Omnipage 18 Standard [PC Download]

Warning - the only problem I had is that Amazon sells a version which will not on windows 8 and I have windows 8. As noted in other reviews, I called Nuance tech support for Omnipage and they sent me a link to download the correct version. And I am very happy Omnipage. I bought a scanner which came with Omnipage 4 SE. Of all the OCRs I have used, Omnipage performs the best. So now that I have upgraded my computer and scanner, I purchased Omnipage 18 from amazon. So just for the fun of it, I scanned two very complex documents together, sideways. Omnipage read them and yielded an almost perfect text document of each page. The only problem that I found was that the page numbers of the documents were not perfectly centered. Other that that, it was perfect. The speed of conversion was fast. I have a laptop made to work very fast. Some software can slow my computer to a crawl. But with Omnipage, it takes less than one second to convert a page. I am impressed. Since Omnipage sells for $149 on other sites, even if you have windows 8, I would buy the software from Amazon and have Nuance update it. And don't worry, the techs at Nuance receive many calls regarding amazon and know what to do.

It's been a long time. I am at least a few years behind on upgrades. I really haven't had any reason to do so up until now. I recently had been concerned about my old software working correctly with Windows 8.1, which I moved to, and also with the coming of Windows 10. This was a very reasonable offer that motivated me to migrate from OmniPage 15 to 18. I like OmniPage very much. I have been using it for much more than a decade. I have tried other OCR software, but I believe that I am spoiled by OmniPage. Their new editions, however, are very expensive--better put: cost-prohibitive--and provide little new functionality as far as I am concerned in proportion to the money that is spent. This edition installs and seems to work well on Windows 8.1. It registered quickly with the given Serial Number, Activated flawlessly, and so I am satisfied. I knew eventually I would have to upgrade to newer software, but was hanging on waiting for an opportunity like this to come. Hopefully, it will allow me to be able to seek another reasonably priced upgrade in the future, but as you can see, I am not in a hurry to spend more money on this!

Great's software to stick to scan my stamp pages

This program has many features and may overwelm someone who wants a simple solution, If you go thru the menus an have an idea of what the scanned document is composed you can manually choose the zones to process. Im converting a 300 page manually typed family history to a digital format with a poor quality original courier font with many different shades of darkness and im getting over a 98% correct conversion. Im using a scanned PDF of the original typing scanned at 1200 DPi to feed omnipage for he conversion. This way i can get the contrast adjustment in the Brother scanner software scan to PDF to adjust for the varying contrast of the original manual typed pages. Each page takes about 20-30 seconds to do the basic conversion then I use the text editor full page in omnipage to do the correction. Correction of the page takes me about 3-5 minutes depending on the errors. I check every line against the original image. There is a small popup image editor also but the full page text editor was easier to see the entire line in context. A really nice feature of the text editor is the ability to click on a line of converted text and have the same line from the scanned image appear just about it to do the corrections. With the built in spell checker its easy to correct spelling. There is no manual with the program there is help files, but I got good results by just trying some of the menus. Overall for the $70 i paid it is an excellent program if you willing to play with the menus for a while. Steve S.

I wanted to enter Chinese characters into the computer. After doing some research, I have found that Ominpage appear to be the most popular Optical Character Recognition (OCR) Software available. I bought Omnipage 18 in the hope that it would recognise Chinese Characters and convert them into a Word Document. Save the hassle of typing character by character, which can be slow and tiring. I tried out the Omnipage 18, on a system running a standard copy of "Windows XP". I did not have any trouble with the Software Installation process. On using Omnipage for a little while, I have found that it can be a little unstable at times (it played up a little at first, but no major problems). NOTE: What disappointed me was that I could not make it recognise one simple HANDWRITTEN Chinese Character. However, it will recognise certain computer fonts. I tried 2 different Chinese Documents (in both Simplified and Traditional Chinese). I was very impressed with the result. It was very accurate! However the Chinese Documents I chose looked like it used common computer Fonts. Since there are so many different type of Chinese Fonts out there (including handwritten/brush painted Chinese Characters), I can't comment on how well Omnipage 18 will recognise these Characters. I think the reason why there are so many different opinions about this product is because, there are so many different people out there, and not all computer systems are the same. I must stress that for Omnipage 18 to function properly, you would need to have a decent computer (one that is powerful, well maintained and healthy). For a technically minded/computer literate person (especially someone who has used similar Products before), this product is quite easy to get a hang of. However, for a non-technically minded person, I think this product is one big nightmare! Just like anything, if you don't know how to use it, it is a useless piece of rubbish! Perhaps I should try Omnipage 18 on "Windows 7" to see what results I get, before I would start recommending to others. I agree with most of the negative reviews (T. Adlam) that Omnipage may not run properly on certain "Windows XP" Systems. I also tried scanning various English Characters and it worked pretty well. I was quite impressed with the fact that Omnipage 18 will recognise "Handwritten" English characters (BLOCK LETTERS) without any trouble, and it converted them into a Word Document.

I wasted my money. I waited more than six months to write a review as I hoped and prayed I would find a way to productively use this program and another Nuance program. One of the biggest problems with this program is the company behind it that just does not care about the customer. Calling them is a total waste of time. Hangups, forever on hold, no recognition of what you are asking them, etc. I believe the scripts they provide their staff are as bad as the program itself. A main problem was document conversion and it seemed to have over 25% error rate from a perfect page of text printed out of Word on Times New Roman. Trying to convert documents from pages out of books or older documents is a joke. I can type the documents in faster than I can scan them, convert, and spend forever on errors. This is a very basic function and if it can't do this, why are they selling this program> Read the negative reviews of Nuance program and I had other problems that appear again in them. The main problem is the archaic response to contacting the company with problems. Don't waste time. And once they get your email, they will pester you forever to upgrade, buy more of their products and unsubscribing does nothing to get rid of the spam. I confess, I did not read the quality of the reviews on Nuance when I bought this and another of their products. I should have.

I was able to OCR some material with a high degree of accuracy. Just don't ask me how I did it. This is a feature rich package for scanning and converting printed or pdf or other media to digital text. The package even offers to read the document to you. It was debatable if it would have been faster for me to type the small about of material in, rather than OCR it. I do not find the instructions very helpful either. I may have to look for some third party guide on using this package. If you are familiar with Nuance's previous products, or with OCR language and techniques, this is probably a great buy and a great value. For someone that has only a passing acquaintance with this process (I have used previous products from this company), you might want to find something easier to use.

After reading several negative reviews online, I was reluctant to buy the software. All I can say, is that the software is easy to use (give it the pdf input file, tell it to scan, tell it where to send the output), fast, and for my application, it makes *0* errors. I have lists of attendees from conferences, but not searchable - so I run these through Omnipage, and it converts them within a few seconds. Great. Happy OCR'ing! PS Originally I had thought Adobe Acrobat XI with its advertised OCR features would do the job. It does not; it does not allow pdf files to be exported to Word or a text file. Omnipage does.

I kept getting reminders that an update was available soon after I bought it. Should have waited and bought the updated version.
