and I have enjoyed all of them some more than others
I have read several books by Katherine Applegate, and I have enjoyed all of them some more than others, of course. As a teacher, I would include this YA novel in my classroom library as it deals with homelessness and how it affects children. It appeals to children from about fourth grade through ninth grade, but it is easy to read, maybe fourth grade reading level.

not just the sampler because it was very good book to read together as a family
I finally read the whole book, not just the sampler because it was very good book to read together as a family. It's a very poignant and beautiful story. Only thing is the story comes to an end unexpectedly I thought, even though it there is a natural cadence to the stop. It is hard to explain. I think the author felt she has made her point, but there is a lingering. Still, a great book to read, and sure to stir a lot of questions if read together as a family.

A lesson on life
Great book through the eyes of a child. Must find more of her books to read. Glad we found this author.

Adorable but Super-Short
The kid's point of view is given very effectively. I want to read more. I knew it was a sampler but in this case a chapter is a page long. The low-key humor is perfectly in line with my tastes. I love Katherine Applegate's writing and her imagination. I plan to read more of her books; and maybe buy this one. This sample hints at deeper plotlines in the full length book.

I've just met Crenshaw and I want to know him better!
Katherine Applegate has captured the true conversational tone of a 4th-into-5th grader. From the first sentence, I was flipping pages. Clever, imaginative and just plain FUN, the introduction of Crenshaw is magic. I'm on a pending list to read and review the entire book, and so hoping to have the opportunity. Hello, Macmillan, it's me, waiting to continue Crenshaw and Jackson's journey!

Great book
One thing though their is a lot of family hangouts. I would say 60 percent family and 40 percent Crenshaw. Overall good book!

Delightfully funny
Once children read Crenshaw Chapter Sampler, they will want to read the entire book. The sampler contains nine very funny short chapters about an unusual boy and an unusual strange acting cat, and the boy’s unusual family.

Legal!
