Q: How washable are these? Do markings easily wipe off of a table or other surfaces?

Yes. My daughter uses them on our counter and inevitably there are stray marks where she misses the paper. I just use a mr clean magic eraser and they are gone. Other cleaners work too.

Q: I want to buy my almost 11 month old her first set of crayons, but my main concern is her trying to eat them. Would these be good to start with?

I have used Melissa & Doug crayons for several years with children of various ages -- including very young children who are still "mouthing" objects. I have seen many children leave bite-marks on Melissa & Doug Jumbo Triangular Crayons, but I have never seen a child be able to bite-off a bit of these crayons. I would recommend these for your daughter's first crayons. Many children can mark on paper using crayons by 10-12 months old. However, do not expect her to "scribble" until 13-18 months old.

Q: What are these really made of? I don't think they could be completely plastic - ?

I'm not sure what they're made of but it appears to be the same material as most crayons. I've had one set of mine for at least 8 years and I use them in my work with young children, so they get used several times a day and they are holding up very well. They are not waxy like some cheaper crayons. I highly recommend these crayons.

Q: Do these crayons stain close, and if so does the stain wash off easily?

I've used these crayons for over 12 years with toddlers and two-year-olds and have never had a problem with them leaving marks on clothes, furniture, etc. If they get on walls or other painted surfaces they are easy to clean off; I use a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser. I recommend these crayons 110%

Loved it !

The crayons are just perfect for the lil ones ! The triangular shape and the jumbo size make it easy for my 15 month old to hold and attempt 'art'. Like one of the reviewers mentioned, the light color take an effort to show on paper but the rest of them are just great. If you are introducing your little one to art - this is a perfect tool !

Pink and purple are very light. Otherwise good product

The pink colour is almost invisible. Otherwise they are a great product to develop the grip of toddlers.. as I hardly found crayons which are jumbo and triangular
