Smooth graphite and sturdy pencil
My go to mechanical pencil. Just be careful with the lead sleeve. My other pencil's lead sleeve somehow bent and now when I push the button to get more lead, the bent sleeve is cutting the lead into small pieces. Thus, I had to order a new pencil and ordered the same pencil because I do think it's one of the best out there.

1 star = made in Japan, 5 stars = Made in Germany, See my pictures
So the problem with these pencils is they're being made in two different places. The German made pencils are fabulous! The Japan made pencils are horrible. The German made pencils are marked "Made in Germany" on the bottom right corner of the package. The Japan made pencils package contains white space on the package and do not show country of origin on the front. I have attached pictures of both pencils side by side. The pencil with the yellow eraser is German made. You can can tell by the slender metal pocket clip design and also by the "Germany" marking in the plastic. The green eraser pencil in the picture is made in Japan. The silver metal pocket clip goes higher up and wraps around at the top. The pencils are very different in design. I want the German made pencils, but keep receiving the Japan pencils. How do I stop this? The pencils made in Japan are HORRIBLE. The German made pencils are the best! Ugh... Edit; I have added a couple more pictures of the German retail package along side the Japan retail package.

Solid pencil
I use these for work. While they're very good they're not quite my favorite. The main difference is the "shock absorber" in the tip. The shock absorber has both good and bad points. Good: It keeps you from breaking lead and bending the tip of the pencil. Even slightly bending the tip of one of these will cause the lead to break repeatedly and makes the pencil a bit frustrating to use. Bad: It keeps you from drawing very dark lines. Overall, it's very good and on the better end of the spectrum of mechanical pencils I've used.
