Mars and Venus Together Forever: Relationship Skills for Lasting Love

My wife and I have had our problems off and on for the past 14 years. It seemed we had problems we would never be able to solve. We both tried very hard but we didn't make much headway. I remember how much I was doing for my wife, thinking that is what would make her happy. I bought this book and read it first. I tried the suggestions and they worked. It sounds terrible but I have been able to decrease the amount of time I spend trying to make her happy. This because I can focus on her three or four specific needs as a woman.The other side of the story, I now know what my needs are. She can focus on the three or four key needs I have so she can use her energies most effectively. For example when I have a problem, I need time to work it out in my mind. I need my time alone to do that. In the past, my wife would want to spend more time with me to talk about it. I didn't know why that irritated me so but it did. Now I understand why after reading John Gray's book. Often we do for our partner what we would want done for us. What is most interesting is, what we want done for us exacerbates the problems when they are done for our partner as in the above example.Despite what some may say, men and women are different. I have four children, two of each gender. We have tried not to force our boys or girls to play with one toy or an other but the boys both gravitated to cars and the girls to Dolls. We even bought dolls for our oldest boy because he wanted what his older sister had. He later abandoned the doll and went for the trunks and cars. We are different, and how beautiful the difference.Learn what those differences are so you can develop the love you have rather than work on the problems you are having.

Have not finished reading this book yet. My husband and I read together just for fun and enjoy reading relationship books. We do not have a troubled relationship whatsoever but want to keep our relationship going strong and this is one way we find helps us. The book is easy to read and has lots of great tips and information. There are personal stories included from people the author has met over the years that help keep the book interesting. Some of the personal stories may ring true to your own situation and it is helpful to remember you are not the only one going through a certain situation.

Dr. Gray is very insightful for both men and women. Every human should have to read this book.

Enjoyable read; author gives some specific and funny real-life examples of men and women's communication styles. At times, he is a little too redundant with the today's man/caveman references (repeats this often) and today's modern working woman woman /full-time mom being overwhelmed and tired. I wish he had talked more about having back-and-forth discussions (or even disagreements) - it seems that the main premise he focused on was how men can listen to women just get things off their chests, and how women can bring up the need to "just talk" and get things off their chests without overwhelming men. He didn't get into a lot of ideas about sticky topics that must be discussed, how to successfully navigate through murky waters when there is dissonance, etc. I would especially recommend this book for men; it focuses a lot on attempting to explain how women think, and how men don't need to be so confused about us anymore.

This book is fantastic. It has fabulous down-to-earth tips for better understanding and dealing with your partner, as well as great stories that illustrate these ideas in easily digestible form.Highly recommended... I think it has helped me a lot.The content is different enough from "Women are from Mars, Men are from Venus" to make it a very worthwhile read, even to those who have the previous book. (though some might not agree, I think I gained a lot from reading both!)

This book is a great book to give you a different perspective of what the other gender think. My boyfriend and I both read the book and it has help our relationship improve more on the communication side.

I bought this book because I read Men are From Mars, Women are From Venus, which helped me understand my husband more. That book has been a great asset in our marriage and I'm looking forward to reading this. We don't believe in divorce so we are in it forever. We are not perfect and all could use some great tips.

Sucks...was boring after reading a few pages had to put it back on a shelve for dust and worms ...
