I moved "Fred" into a Deep Blue Aquarium 2.5 gallon tank that now sits on my home office desk. Something large enough for Fred, but I have to be realistic with limited "desk top real estate". This hygger betta log sits smack in the middle of my 12x8x6" inch Deep Blue tank with two natural broad leaf plants on each side. After heading to Pet Co. and a good deal of research, I found this log on Amazon with only 3 reviews...all 5 stars!FRED loves his new hygger betta log! Within a minute, he was darting in and out of it and appreciates an area just to chill. He has already figured out all of the access holes and USES them all! I placed this betta log at a 45 degree angle and it is the best thing I found for FRED. Get one for your betta! He will be sooooo happy!Note: As much as I wanted a kit for Fred, I ended up building my own tank kit. I just couldn't find exactly what I was looking for. Here's what I build Fred's home with (mostly from searching and buying on Amazon):- Deep Blue Acrylic Professional ADB11001 2.5 gallon tank- NICREW Classic LED Aquarium light , 6W with extendable brackets- 10W internal heater (already had this)- thermometer- Koller Products TOM Aquarium internal Power filter (perfect output for a small tank like this)- Zilla Terrarium cover (12x6 inch)- 2 small natural broad leaf plants (from Pet Co)- 3 small marimo moss balls (from Pet Co)- Sponge Bob (my kids insisted)- some smooth black stones scattered over regular gravel (Pet Co)

Love this. It’s the perfect size in my 5 gallon. Doesn’t peel or give off any bad chemicals like some I’ve had. Rapsborsas like it. A bit rougher inside and had to file a couple pieces down. Wouldn’t use with long fins like betta unless you smooth it.

Good for a betta tank. Big hideout, make sure you have a 3 gallon at least. I didn't read the dimensions, yet fit perfectly my 3.5 g. I just read it was for bettas and it is, no sharp corners. I trust the hygger brand at this point, bought other products before. This log looks realistic. My betta swam thru it as soon as I put it in, gave me a thumbs up and told me to write this review.

This log made out of resin really looks like the real thing.Overall rating would be 5+ stars if:- the edges, like other reviewers said, are very sharp, they needed to be sanded down- with the edge smoothing, you loose some color and the white resin material it is made of is exposed - aesthetically not as pleasant as it was- the price is ~$13 is a little highPro: why I gave it 4 stars? I would have given 3 because of the above mentioned, but it looks real, it looks nice, our Betta and Placo loves it. It fits in our aquarium nicely. Thanks for other reviewers, I was expecting to do some sanding (not this much though).

The first time we ordered this, it came in a box with a lot of other things and broke on the way to us. As soon as we started a return, they sent us a new one, and it is just gorgeous! The bark really does feel like real bark, but won't soften up like wood -- maybe not the best choice for long finned fish, I thought, but we are using it in a betta tank and have had no issues. There are some sharp plastic edges inside as well, which we sanded down a bit. There was some offgassing when we first put it in a tub of hot water, but we left it soak, as we do all our ornaments, and had no issues after that. I wish they would come out with a floating version, and about a million other deco items, because this really is just gorgeous and we would buy them all.

I got this because I thought my betta could use a little more stimulation and something to serve as a hidey-hole. It's a great size! He seems to like it and is able to swim through all of the holes. It did have some kind of rough edges, though, so I filed them down a bit before putting it in my tank.

2 stars had to come off from this review because the product marketing indicates this is suitable for bettas. It most certainly is not unless you want to see the delicate flowing fins of your fish shaved off. It’s like having a door frame lined with razor blades. The way the mold is cast, the insides have very sharp edges that are jagged and it’s difficult to file down. I had to file mine down so much that it broke and I threw it in the trash. The outside of the trunk is very rough if you rub your finger lightly over it in some areas. If you have a female beta with truncated short fins, perhaps it’s okay. My male betta has fins that are like tissue paper, and he’s very active and curious and this hollow log will definitely cut him up.

If you want a natural LOOKING tank without the headache of doing real natural items that require much prep, this is nice. Great for a 5-10 gal aquarium. Larger than that and it will look small unless you do several. Good hidey hole for cichlids, plecostomist etc. Also good to string live plants or moss onto. For those who are buying this for your BETTA...well bettas do not USE hidey holes-unless its a female about to get killed by a breeding male and why did you leave her in the tank that long anyhow. If you are betta tank shopping, get FLOATING plants...that is what they live for! Nice pice, happy with it.
