My kids love playing with this smart chessboard game. It's fun, educational, and keeps them entertained for hours.

For the price ($27.99 at the time of this review), this is a decent deal. There are eight competitive games and one play-with-the-lights game included. Each includes the option to play against another live player, or to play the board as an opponent. When playing the board, each game has three levels of difficulty. Navigating through the various modes is straightforward once understood, but some trial and error is involved. For example, selecting a game is explained in the printed instructions, but how to actually start the selected game is not well explained - it takes a press of the on/off button to "confirm" the game or level selected.I've reached that stage in life where at least a star's worth of a review score depends on the quality of the instructions. If an instruction manual is included but is either hard to read or too sparse in its instructions, I will not give a product a 5-star rating. That is the case with this product. The instruction manual is very difficult to read - black print on a dark blue background in a tiny font size might be legible to children, but presents a challenge for older eyes. Reading an instruction manual shouldn't require glasses and a flashlight. As to the content of this particular manual, it provides a decent explanation of how to navigate the playing board, but presumes the player understands the rules of the various games. Just by way of example, the Reversi game (a/k/a, Othello) is "explained" by describing the goal of the game without describing how actual play is conducted. That is typical of all the game play instruction. That is an easy enough hurdle to overcome, but in my opinion, it is a hurdle that shouldn't have to be overcome. So, 4-star rating instead of a 5-star rating.In all other respect - especially for children (and maybe young teens) - this is a decent product, providing exactly what it purports to provide. For adults, the 2-player mode is fine. Playing against the board itself is another story. Adults will find it challenging at some points, and brain-dead at others. That's true even at the highest level. I am not docking my review score because of this limitation. This product is in fact marketed as a "Kids Smart Chessboard" and not as a challenge for adults. (The modern use of "chess" to describe any strategic board game is another gripe, but that's a gripe for another time and place).Bottom line: this product is a good investment for children, and a decent investment as a travel board for a pair of adults who enjoy games such as Reversi.

I highly recommend this smart chessboard game, it's a great way to keep kids entertained while also promoting cognitive skills.

After the children opened this and got to playing it, I was seriously considering giving it 4 stars because there is no volume control and it is loud enough to get annoying after hearing "Good!" 50+ times as they played the Whack-A-Mole game, but I got the instructions out, and thankfully there is a mute button (press the 2 middle buttons at the same time). It has 9 different games for the children to cycle through and they are really enjoying it. The only problem with this game is that I don't have 2 of them, one for each child. I tried it out and it is entertaining, especially since I enjoy Reversi. I am pleased with this product.

The Dollox Kids Smart Chessboard is an interesting concept, but it falls short in a few key areas. While it comes with 9 built-in strategy games, including chess and tic-tac-toe, I found it a bit frustrating overall.Tic-tac-toe is super easy and straightforward, but the rest of the games are much harder to figure out. The directions provided are poor and don't really explain the rules or gameplay well. It’s confusing, especially for kids, and even as an adult, I had trouble figuring out how to play some of the other games.The board itself is well-made and the idea of having multiple games in one is great, but without clear instructions, it’s tough to enjoy all that it offers. If you're looking for something simple like tic-tac-toe, this works fine. But if you want a full range of playable games, be prepared for a lot of trial and error.

My kids liked it immediately. It's a brain game without the pieces to get lost. Has a few games to play on it. It's really cool.
