Hostas survive neighborhood deer! Egg base, garlic, and mint combined! Mixed results for rabbits.
I've used this for several years now with great results, so I decided to write a review after my third bottle. I was skeptical at first. My neighborhood is full of deer and hostas are their delicacy, except in my yard. I have the only surviving and mature flowering hostas in the neighborhood over the last 5 years! One should spray twice within a week in early spring, and then every 3-4 weeks after. It seems that the early spraying lets the plants absorb the components thoroughly after the winter, and then the other spraying keeps the repellent absorbed into the plants. I watched deer after a heavy rain come and nibble on the hostas before I had a chance to respray them, but they quickly moved on after a single bite.OTHER THINGS TO KNOW: The concentrate is a lot less expensive than most of the other competitive products, and I mix it at 10oz./gal (2.5oz./quart) for optimum results. It keeps away rabbits most of the time too, as they used to be the critters that would get my plants next to the house. The minty smell is pleasant, but also has the egg base and garlic in it for maximum effectiveness. It claims to be safe for vegetables, but in my opinion I won't spray directly on forming beans, corn, peas, peppers, or other vegetables in case the scent or egg base is absorbed into the edibles. I thought to try "Liquid Fence" or "Deer Out", but Liquid Fence is egg based, smells bad, and not recommended for vegetables, and "Deer Out" is mint based (ok for vegetables), but it was reported to not be effective after rain. But "Deer Mace" is the best of both of these other products (eggs, garlic, and mint) and a lot less money, so this is the clear choice due to the demonstrated results!Update 1: There is no reason why some may say "Liquid Fence" or "Deer Out" is better, since they both have mostly similar ingredients, but the Deer Mace concentrate is less expensive with higher concentrations of active ingredients and better after-rain performance. The suspended solids spray may clog using a trigger sprayer bottle at the higher concentration I use, so I switched to a handheld Agricas pressurized sprayer with better results and no clogging. One would do well to add an extra amount of a liquid dish soap to each ready-to-use batch for even better dispersion, absorption, and clinginess to plant leaves.Update 7-23-24: I'm on the subscribe and save for this product. I created a spreadsheet for popular deer products with their active ingredients and concentrations. This product combines the minty smell with the egg based component, where others either use one or the other, except for the blood based products. I was not impressed with the results to keep away rabbits as of late. After I thoroughly sprayed the hostas, the first two pictures show where the rabbits have nibbled on part of them. The third picture shows some of the unharmed hostas with flower blooms next to the heavily populated deer woods. Thus, even though my hostas survive the deer, the rabbits are still nibbling on those close to the house. 2 star for rabbit control but 5+ star for deer!

So far it sems to be working
Here's what I like so far about Natures Mace. Very pleasant odor unlike some of the others I have tried. It doesn't clog up my 1 gallon sprayer which makes it easier and quicker to apply. The concentrate comes in a small bottle that is easier to deal with than the one gallon jugs that I have used before. Now the question is, is it working as well as the rotten egg sprays I have used in the past. So far I have not had any predation on our many Hosta that populate our property which is good, but for some reason many the deer passing through our yard all winter have not showed up in the neighborhood to any extent. Are they being kept out by Natures Mace? At this point I would have to say yes, but until I see them wander through and reject the Hosta that they mowed down last summer then I have to reserve judgement. Also last summer we tried a granular preparation using many of the same ingredients as the liquid varieties use and it had absolutely no effect. If we get through the summer with the results I am seeing now using Natures Mace than I will be back with a less nuanced positive review. Time will tell.Ok so the deer have hit my neighbors plants and left ours completely alone so this is officially working and I have ordered more.2nd review June 2019Ok so just received our order. This stuff works great and I would not hesitate to recommend it to anyone.

Hard to tell if it's worth it or not
This may be the best deer deterrent on the market, but I'm not sure this is saying much. I've tried several others and this is less smelly, even though it has more active ingredients (rotten eggs, garlic & mint). It's easy to use and I think it does inhibit deer from browsing if it's used frequently (every 2-3 weeks), doesn't rain a lot, and if the deer don't care that much. If they really like something, they'll eat it anyway. I continue to use it mostly because it makes me feel that I'm doing all that I can. I do think it helps, but it is far from perfect.

Bye Bye, Devil's Spawn!
This product is AWESOME!!! When it came time to do battle with the fluffy-tailed devil's spawn this year, I was about to resort to the old "rotten egg" product I've used in the past. While that product was effective, the smell was enough to ward off Satan himself! As I read reviews, I noticed the "rotten egg" product had been purchased by Big Brother and had changed it's formulation. Other reviews pointed me in the direction of Nature's Mace, so I thought I'd give it a shot.I sprayed this pleasant smelling product for the first time a week ago and we didn't so much as see one of nature's derelicts anywhere in the yard for about 5 days. They started to venture back into the yard the last couple days, but still wouldn't get within 20' of our over-priced landscaping. I followed the instructions and reapplied the magic elixir today ... our vegetation has never looked happier. This is a great product if you're trying to protect your investment without using a shotgun. Here's my only advice ... remove the "filter" from the bottom of the feed hose on your sprayer. It will clog quickly and other than frustrating you, there's really no point to having it. Set the nozzle to "stream" and make sure you run hot water through everything when you're done.Again, awesome product and I will use this monthly (as long as big brother doesn't buy them out and change the formula).

It's crap
A waste of money. Followed directions to the "T". Did not stop the rabbits one bit. You know what works and will only cost you a $ a bar?-IRISH SPRING SOAP. Cut it up in smaller pieces, spread it around your plants, I wish now I would have listened to my friends and not bought this worthless product. $44.00 down the drain. Also says it has no smell-not true. It stinks. Don't waste your money.
