Welcome to my Sneak
Door Pivot Hinges Heavy Duty Hinges for Max 200 lb. Wood Doors, Pivot Hinges for Hidden Door Bookcase, and Secret Door, with Door Ball Catch Hardware (Type I)I ordered this pivot hinge to create a bookshelf secret door leading to a room we call the Sneak. We have an ancient home that we put in rooms, closets, and a bathroom in the attic. It is an old Victorian home with a very angled roof. When adding the rooms, we found we only had two walls that needed an angled ceiling. They were the walls between the rooms. So, in one room, we added a doorway into a smaller room to accommodate the closet and support the ceiling. It is large enough to hold a desk and a twin bed. I always wanted to make it into an I Dream of Genie Room., so we thought it would be amazing to have a secret door. We decided on a bookshelf/ door. So, with excitement from my husband and I and that of my kiddo, who would now have a secret James Bond room and our hinge in hand, we found a bookshelf to become the outside door. We put the plan in motion following the directions, suggestions, and tips we found online. Our simple bookshelf from Walmart was a perfect size and was within the limit of 200 pounds for the hinge; when we began working with the hinge, we encountered some problems, but they were not the fault of the hinge. We did follow the advice of others concerning the weight limit. The shelves would hold a few books, but it was created to hold Funko Pops! and other items that give insight into our teen's favorite things.Even with the difficulties, pay attention to the details; it was worth the final result.

very week metal
I got this for a bookshelf closet door and it was very poor quality. The bookshelf weighed around 42 lbs well under the advertised weight limit so that shouldn't have been an issue. I got this hinge free on Vine and really hate having to give a poor review on things I receive for free but this thing caused me so much grief that I felt I have too. The issue can be seen in the photo the little metal nubs the arrow is pointing to should not be on the bottom of the adjustment screw, this is the top hinge and you can see the bolt is up while the adjustment screw is in the down position. I tried putting the arms in the correct place and squeezing them back but they would just separate as soon as I tried using it again. The metal is so soft that I could easily bend it with my fingers. I spent a few hours trying to get this hinge to work to no avail. I finally had to run to Ace Hardware and buy another hinge (which worked perfectly on the first try). This hinge may work with a standard hollow core interior door, but after the aggregation it caused me I will not be finding out. The one I got at Ace had a ring attached to the arms where this one just has the two tabs that are bent around the adjustment screw.

Great value-option pivot hinges, but watch the weight limits!
Not much to say: it does exactly what it says it will, and seems to operate perfectly within its listed weight range and installation parameters. However, if you're dreaming of a "secret bookcase door", just be aware: most modern bookcases weigh between 40 and 100 lbs on their own, without any load on the shelves. Books are HEAVY. At 200 lb max (or 220, the product info lists two different weight capacities) this hinge will NOT safely work for a bookcase which is loaded up with books. Knick-knacks and trophies and that sort of thing? No problem! Books on the other hand weigh between 6lbs (for small paperbacks) and 35 lbs (for larger hardbacks) per lineal foot-- which means if you've got a standard 30" bookcase and plan to put your nice hardbacks up on the shelves, that's an estimated 75+ lbs per shelf. If you've got 5 shelves, that's something in the ballpark of 450 lbs or more, total, for the bookcase + shelf loads, which is more than twice what this hinge is equipped for.For lightweight applications, this hinge is great. If you want heavier applications (as described above) you need to spend a LOT more: commercial grade pivot hinges cost anywhere from $150 to $1200, depending on type, size, and operating weight capacities.

STRONG & HEAVY PIVOT HINGES….
I’ve always been a fan of the midway pivot hinges you see at some nice hotels & restaurants, but didn’t really see the ability to put on in a residence anywhere. The hardware isn’t readily available, and I don’t remember seeing anything like this in anyone’s house before. Well, that was all the more reason to get it. Now there is going to be some sleuthing involved if you’re anything like me. If you have someone in your house that is mechanically minded and good with their hands I hope they owe you a favor. The hinge itself is VERY WELL CRAFTED. I literally can’t find a single imperfection anywhere on the body, and the joint articulates very smoothly and reliably. It’s almost a waste to just put it on the master door, but hey, sometimes you just need to go for it. This will take some time to install, but what you’re left with will be breathtaking. Good luck…..
