Excellent HT that has performance, ease of use, and flexibility with firmware updates in its favor
The vendor (ANYSECU) delivered my UV-K6 five days early so that was a nice surprise! I have ordered from ANYSECU in the past and they have always handled all my orders with care and efficiency. This is my second UV-K6 and it is every bit as good as my first one. After checking that it was functioning as it should I loaded the egzumer v0.19 firmware into it right from the start. I have not found a firmware that is easier to load and that has as many options squeezed into it than the egzumer archive offers. I would highly recommend it to unlock all the capabilities of the UV-K6 handheld. Once that was done, since I already had a codeplug from my first UV-K6 I used that to get the new UV-K6 up and running great in less than 10 minutes. This includes GMRS, HAM, MARINE, LOCAL PUB SVC, and AIRCRAFT frequencies. One thing I would pass along is that you can use CHIRPnext to copy and paste all your frequencies from any other radio you own into a new codeplug for your UV-K6. Note that you can disable TX for any frequencies you are not licensed to use in CHIRP by selecting OFF in the Duplex field. Also, note that the latest versions of CHIRPnext have implemented an easy way to create and edit your scanlists. By default those columns are not displayed but if you go to "View" along the top menu dropdowns you can select "Show extra fields" and 6 additional programmable columns will appear. For each channel you can choose to not assign it to a scanlist, or you can assign it to scanlist 1, scanlist 2 or scanlists 1 & 2. When you have programmed it as you like, upload the finished codeplug to your UV-K6 and you'll find 3 scanning options: SCANLIST 1, SCANLIST 2, and SCAN ALL. Having scanlists is a huge bonus with these radios and makes the UV-K6 way more versatile than radios that do not support scanlists.Incidentally, the receive audio of the UV-K6 is greatly improved over the original UV-K5 and another bonus is that the TX audio is absolutely perfect with the UV-K6. It is loud, clean, clear, and natural sounding without any of the muffled and distorted audio that many VHF/UHF radios transmit. Note that with the egzumer v0.19 firmware you can adjust the MIC level to suit your own voice. You can also set the backlight to always ON, always OFF, or you can set incremented time periods if you wish. You can also adjust the minimum and maximum brightness of the display to suit your preference. The display is very easy on the eyes in dark areas and out in bright sunlight. The high performance, rugged and good looking UV-K6 is definitely a keeper!

What a remarkable radio
I ordered Quansheng UV-K6 after a lot of research here and elsewhere, I was intrigued by the features and hackability. After I gave the radio a full charge (about 5-6 hours), I turned it on to make sure it worked, then immediately used the ezgumer hack and flashed with new firmware. The OEM features are incredible on the stock version, but ezgumer fixes a few issues, namely aviation airbands on AM and adds a broader receive bandwidth. Reception is quite good, especially compared to my Baofeng UV5R, though it is a bit heavier and larger.I have a few different antennas to play with - a Nagoya 771, Expert 7.5, and a cheap whip antenna. I think these antennas can't handle the lower bandwidth of the aviation bands, because they did not work at all for aviation 108-136Mhz.In fact, I was surprised that the stock antenna worked better than the Nagoya and Expert on all frequencies - 2M and 70, and GMRS and FRS. I did not expect this from a stock antenna on a cheap radio, but I'll be keeping it on.Another great feature is the spectrum analyzer - it's simply amazing to use and can scan large swaths of bandwidth easily and quickly. On another note, I used CHIRP to copy my old Baofeng channel list, then imported the Quansheng into CHIRP and pasted the list there, then I still had plenty of room to add a lot more channels. I find the spectrum analyzer better for scanning small ranges, but it's good to have a full channel list. One negative - there is no obvious way to adjust channel list on the radio when it scans - it gets stuck on active channels, rather than continue scanning. The Baofeng would move along ahead on the list after a few seconds of listening then continue through the list, the Quansheng doesn't seem to have an adjustment for this... i have to research this.Battery life is decent - though I think the Baofeng battery lasts longer, but really, the Quansheng has a lot more going on - and with the backlight on quite a bit longer, battery life is still impressive at 73% after 24hrs of futzing around with it.This is an amazing radio! I recommend it.

Extremely cool customizable radio
This little radio is extremely fun to play with using the many aftermarket firmware available. I am using F4HWN 3.5 right now. It improves the AM (air band) reception tremendously. Using an Abree 24" foldable, I can pick up airport traffic clear as day (even the tower) from over 30 miles away. Performance seems identical to my Uniden Bearcat scanner which is 5x as expensive. I cant comment on the stock firmware, but with custom this radio has so many interesting things to explore and can capture frequency from 18mhz to 1000mhz i think. I even saw some videos of people receiving satellite comms with it. If you are even a tiny bit nerdy, this thing is so awesome. Flashing firmware is easy, just get a Baofeng cable and some websites can flash right from the Chrome browser, takes 60 seconds.

Needs to be set up
Nice features and review for speaker improvement etc. Mine came with battery loaded and first tested green so I screwed on the ant. and flipped it on. It started right up but the odd thing is that the charger light immediately turned red after just a mere few seconds of turning on. Perhaps just dirty contacts on cradle. I believe this will also do USB C charging but no cable was included. The instructions are in small print and the firmware and programming are going to take some effort. Other than that the features look to be worth the price.
