Turns night into day.
It is a brillisnt light with lots of different settings. I have used the general setting which is bright, dimmer and strobe. The strobe would be outlawed in a disco; it would disorientate anything that is potentially dangerous and breathes. The bright setting is over 700 lumens and it lights up the lane outside my house like a car headlight. It a brilliant thing and will shine away for 184 hours when used in eco mode and for most purposes that is enough. It is built to a high standard and is robust and if you follow the maintenance instructions it should last a life time. Brilliant torch and well worth the money.

Excellent torch
Bought one of these to replace an old Maglite I had that got nicked (completely my fault as I stupidly left it on site). That one was a 4 x D-Cell version and was a bit heavy as well as being 'baseball bat' long so I thought I'd go for a 3 x C-Cell version. In terms of light performance for what I need, this is perfect. I also like the different work modes you can set the switch up for (pretty sure my old one couldn't do this) such as for 'general' use where it has three different brightness levels or 'military' and 'outdoor' where the switch has flashing modes. It also goes from flood to spot in just a quarter turn of the head rather than the winding continuous winding of the older model. All in all I can't fault it. It's an improvement on the old one I had in pretty much every way. Not feeling quite so bad about it getting nicked now...

3* C cell means this won't run out of charge quickly
Disappointed that it is no brighter than my little LedLenser torch, which also casts an excellent flat pool of light while the Maglite casts a donut shape with a dark spot in the middle unless you set it to focused beam. Not a big deal just a bit disappointing that a great brand like Maglite wouldn't keep up with the times in its flagship range. For this money I was hoping for LedLenser performance but longer battery life and the Maglite doesn't quite deliver the first of those.
