Arcade1up replacement/upgrade
Due to the issues with a joystick on both of my Arcade1up machines I have now put one of these in two different Arcade1up machines (Mortal Kombat and NBA Jam). They feel kind of similar to the stock sticks but there is certainly a quality difference. The clicking is a little quieter and less cheap sounding than the stock sticks in the Arcade1up cabinets. It comes set up as 8-way but can be switched to 4-way if u are using it for Pac-Man or something like that by adjusting the retainer on the bottom of the stick. It’s pretty easy to do but you have to take the control deck off to access the bottom of the joystick.I like the standard square 8-way gate and even don’t mind the light tension springs for the NBA Jam but hate both in the MK. I put an octagonal gate on the one in the Mortal Kombat machine and love it. I plan on putting 4 lb tension springs in the MK cabinet and maybe 2 lb springs in the NBA Jam (just so it dosnt feel so cheap). As far as install goes, you have to be somewhat handy, but it’s pretty easy to install. You will want to take the metal plate off of your stock Arcade1up joystick and install it on your new sanwa. This way the screw holes match up and you don’t have to make a bunch of new holes. The other thing is this joystick comes with a 5 pin connector and the 1up has 8 wires soldered in. This is where you may spend a little extra time figuring it out. Basically, under your joystick, there are four switches/buttons (up, down, left, right). On the stock setup, each switch is connected to the control board with two wires (power and ground). To wire in the new joystick, you just have to use the included connecter and splice 5 wires. You will use the positive wire from each switch and connect to one of the four colored wires on the connecter. You can use just one of the old grounds and connect it to the black wire on the included connecter. You could solder the wires, but I just twisted and used heat shrink tubes and a heat gun. Electrical tape would work fine too.A little trial and error may be needed to have your directions correct if your like me, but the second time was a lot easier.Size wise the sanwa is about the same as the Arcade1up sticks so the only issues fitting should be able to be resolved by orienting the stick so the 5 pin connecter isn’t obstructed.I will try to add pictures if I do another one or when I do the springs.

Good feel
I had to figure out which wire did what but it works great. Good control. Easy switch from 8 way to 4. Watch YouTube video.

Great joystick for DIY arcade
This joystick provides a solid feel and reliable accuracy for my countertop arcade unit. I found the screws in the mounting plate were more difficult to remove than I'd prefer, but that is a very minor complaint in an otherwise impeccable product. It feels very durable and I expect it will last.I was tempted to spend less on a cheaper joystick and buttons, but I am convinced this was worth the cost difference based on this experience. It gives a professional feel on the DIY arcade.

Love the click
I custom designed an arcade gamepad and I got tired of these cheap knockoffs. This is what you want.

A diy arcade must have!
When i first set out to build my arcade machine, I obtained some cheap run of the mill, joysticks, and buttons . Well I have always heard, you get what you pay for, and arcade parts are no exception to that saying. I finally decided to spend a little more money, and replace my joysticks and buttons on my cabinet. The difference between the two different ones is unreal. Sanwa buttons, are amazing and the joysticks are so much better than the previous cheaper ones i had. I will definitely be purchasing more sanwa buttons and joysticks..

This company is the best quality wise for parts like this
Very well made Joystick by a well known arcade controller parts manufacturer. This company is the best quality wise for parts like this. I used mine along with Sanwa's black arcade buttons to build my own controller for street fighter 5 and it worked very well. Building a controller with separate parts like this really adds to the personality of the controller. You can build it exactly to your liking with the colors that you want and with whatever wood/metal/shoeboxish material that you like. You can even just throw it into a pre made plastic box and it would still work very well. As for this actual stick, it feels very satisfying when the stick reaches the registration distance for the movement. It feels akin to using cherry mx blue keys on a mechanical keyboard: Clicky. I've tried out my friend's stick that costed him only $15 from another manufacturer, and I've got to say that it just doesn't feel as good. It feels very muddy and the transition just doesn't feel as satisfying. This is stick is definitely worth the extra money and will probably live for a lot longer. It also comes in a lot of different colors, so you can pick and choose from whatever fits your style. At the end of the day, it really makes it a lot more enjoyable to use something like this as opposed to a normal controller, just to get that true genuine arcade feeling while still being super accessible in your own home.
