Follow my directions. Not youtube.
To be honest I messed up my very first upper. I do believe it lapping especially at least checking before installing the barrel. My problem was I followed directions and videos on the internet and I believe 99% of them are wrong. Always. I repeat. Always hand lap your receivers and only do it vertically. Never lay down the receiver because the weight of the tool will cause upsetting internal scratches. Believe me on this. Mount solid vertically and oil the tool good on the inside. Lapping compound only on the working edge.I almost threw my first one away. My second turned out flawless after following the vertical and by hand method.

The chamfered edges on the receiver dowel have gouges and aren't properly finished
In the end this tool cost me a hundred dollar nickel boron upper because the chamfered/radiused edges on the bottom and top of the alignment dowel that rides in the receiver had sharp edges with a couple knicks in the surface. If i'd taken the time to polish those surfaces maybe it wouldn't have worn through the nickel boron finish. I honestly didn't even realize it was like it was like that I just checked to make sure the surface that does the work rode true.I will never purchase another wheeler tool in my life and i'll probably never purchase another WMD nickel boron product either. For the very small amount of time the tool was spinning in the upper I would've thought the nickel boron would have had no problem dealing with it. The small knicks didn't feel sharp and there was only one that really felt substantial when running my nail over it. Also the face of the upper wasn't anywhere close to true. If the coating was applied uniformly maybe I wouldn't have had to lap it.I made absolutely certain I got none of the compound inside the receiver. It will not only strip finishes but the silicon carbide crystals will embed themselves in the surface and wear the carrier and receiver. I planned on purchasing brownells tool but it was out of stock. The reviewer below me purchased the wrong model and left a one star review while at the same time assuring us he knows what he's doing? Priceless

Don't trash good parts by using this garbage "tool".
Easy to use PILE of garbage. Not even concentric! That's why they use a spring! Chattered during production due to wrong speed and feed - THEN blued over to hide it! ZERO quality control! Don't trash good parts by using this garbage "tool". Head is CRACKED AND CHIPPED again due to speed and feed being WRONG, likely on a CNC with BS CAM file settings.

Get the Brownells tool
Saw other purchasers had issues, but bought it anyway. Definitely regret that. The surface is quite rough and I would not lap anything with it as it would probably do an uneven job. Clear dent in the top as well. I'm not super knowledgable about this kind of thing so maybe it is supposed to be somewhat uneven, but the lapping face does have a slight dent in it, and just overall I'd rather buy the more expensive Brownells toolJust spend the extra money on the Brownells tool. This ain't worth it

Only use by hand, not with drill attachment!
Read several reviews that said it was junk, That is not True! I was able to take down the high side .002 on my receiver (by hand only) in just over 20 minutes. Improved 100M accuracy to sub-MOA! I would never use the drill attachment because this operation is too precise and needs to be checked from time to time to assure that you are not removing to much material. When you check your progress you will need to clean the rubbing compound off of the receiver and the tool as well. Otherwise you will get the lapping compound into the receiver and you can feel the grit as you turn the tool. Common sense and time Work!
