Great read very intense for my philosophy class...really enjoyed it,

When I first read this work I was young, and don't believe I yet had the requisite dose of life for more than a shallow grasp of this magnificent book. Upon my current reading, that appears to have changed, and I count "Crime and Punishment" as among my all time favorites. Its psychological and character development is deep and moving. I find the translation of Constance Garnett so excellent, that it renders the work of a notoriously complex author quite clear and understable. If you are a fan of Pevear and Volokhonsky, as I am, I believe Garnett will not disappoint you. The Digiread paperback is a solid product as well. So fans of great Russian literature, I recommend this text without reservation. But hang onto your seat!

Not the easiest book to read as Dostoyevsky dives into the dark side of humanity. Russian names are a challenge for Americans.Worth reading but it requires dedication.

Thus far not an intimidating read. Yes, it is long, but it is a great story.

Unique style of writing- brought me inside the mind of characters in a way that I haven’t experienced as a reader. Genius and Giant.

The book came quickly. The print and pages were easy to read. A good translation of a Classic.

“Crime and Punishment” is one of the most psychologically intense and riveting books I have ever read. The plot jumps right in, and only continues to escalate. Dostoevsky accurately captures the nature of guilt and suffering, as well as the principles behind criminality and judgement.The story captures a young man, Raskolnikov, and his plights as he attempts to murder an old woman. His psychological depth is unparalleled, and the symbolism/motifs only made the book that much better. Raskolnikov accepts the challenge of murdering the old woman, and follow through it; however, he isn’t relieved of burden and grief, but rather has it bestowed upon him. He is driven to absolute delirium, which leads to a schizophrenic shift in dialogue. Dostoevsky uses a “Dialogic” writing style, which turns Raskolnikov’s monologues into dialogues— with himself. This is used to show the internal dichotomy (or multi-chotomy for Raskolnikov) ravaging his brain as he argues for and against murder. The novel then twists into a depraved Criminal Minds episode-- literally. Raskolnikov begins to play dangerous games with the police, and is on the brink of turning himself in on multiple occasions. The tone is exceptionally dark and indecisive in its description guided by Raskolnikov, which only sucks the reader into the plot. If you love a dark philosophical novel, this is the one for you. The intricacies of the storyline, such as Russian translations and biblical symbolism hidden in the depths of depravity, encourage further research and thought— a task that becomes a hobby as you’re engulfed by the novel.Praised as one of the greatest novels ever written, Dostoevsky uses his work to ask more questions than he’ll answer— often times questions he has himself. This leaves the reader to think, and challenges a higher level of thought that only the best novels can encourage. As I finished the book, I was left with disappointment that the ride was over, yet a plethora of subjects to think over— the paradoxes of justice, the intertwined nature of love and violence, and the capabilities a man has when he gives his mind over to brutality. Overall, the story was absolutely phenomenal, and I rate it as one of the best novels I have ever read. I encourage any and all to read this, only if they’re ready to do some serious thinking

This is an excellent translation. It was printed on demand, and the inner margin (closest to the spine) was narrow and I found it difficult to read.
