no salt added, large size and low cost
No salt added. Add your own salty flavor enhancers -- red or greenTabasco Sauce or Chinese hot mustard (my favorites): or maybe you favor some other kind of sauce. Amazon's got 'em. The added sauce, probably not enough to be worried about the sodium, but if so you can balance it out with potassium salt available in all supermarkets and on Amazon. My favorite brand is Nativo 0%Sodium, Amazon's got it.Most sardine tins are 100 grams. These are 125 grams, 12 to the package. Priced at a little more than a dollar a can, ounce per ounce they're cheaper than Chicken of the Sea at the grocery store or here on Amazon. These are small sardines, quite a few of 'em in the can. Soft, hardly notice the bones. Mild flavor which invites adding hot sauce or ??. If you want a strong fish flavor, these are not the ones.Per can, 22g protein and 6g fat. That's not lard, it's fish oil high in Omega-3's. Sodium only 70 mg. High in calcium, 30% of RDA. Just about the healthiest non-vegetarian food you can buy, low cost, and unlike fresh meat it doesn't have to be refrigerated until it's opened. But you're gonna eat the whole thing immediately anyhow, right?Sardines are high in purines. If you've got gout, maybe you're afraid of seafoods high in purines. I play it safe by taking a Terminalia bellerica capsule, the stuff works like allopurinol but is a natural product with thousands of years of use in Ayurvedic medicine. Amazon carries LEF brand.Sardines and herring are typically low in toxins like mercury because they're open ocean wild fish low on the food chain. Don't have the potential contamination issues you've got with large predator fish and farmed fish. This is a long detailed review because sardines and herring are staples in my diet. I buy an assortment so I'm not having to eat the same thing every day, but these are going to become my main ones.

Nice quality product.
These are delicious, and one of my cats loves them, too (and I feel safe giving them to her because they don't contain salt).

Very good taste.

Tasty protein
These are very good. There aren't as many in a can as I would like there to be, but I like the fact that they have all the bones in them so that I can get extra calcium.

Soft and no salt added
One has to be careful when ordering sardines without salt because sometimes one of the ingredients is salt !!!. This one has the lowest sodium I have seen at 70 mg per can. Also it is sometimes very hard to mash up canned sardines without a lot of effort and for an old person I find these to be very soft and easy to mash with either mustard or mayonnaise or whatever you want. I'm very happy to have found this product.

WORST SARDINES I'VE EVER HAD
I don't do too many reviews, but when I do, you can bet it's for a reason. These were the absolute worst sardines I've ever had. Totally wasted my money an a whole 12-pack because after opening the first can. and smelling a non-fresh fish smell emanating from the can, and then SAW LOADS AND LOADS OF FISH SCALES literally PILED on top of what looked to be misshapen dead fish barely visible underneath them all. Needless to say, sardines from a sardine company that produces great sardines do not look or smell like this - not even near it. I made the mistake of eating some because I was still in disbelief about the money I wasted on all these tins, so I tried, and they were as disgusting tasting as they looked. I have the BONE-IN IN WATER version. Good luck.Try some great sardines from Portugal, or my new favorite ones called SAFE CATCH SARDINES - the skinless boneless type. They're a little high in SODIUM but I eat a half can a day (45G drained) every day so that's only 190mg of the 380mg sodium they contain. Also nice they are one of the lowest in SAT FAT (2G) and CHOLESTEROL (40MG), and higher in PROTEIN (24G) - NO SCALES, PLEASANT SMELL TOO! But the BEST advantage is that unlike most sardines from other companies, EVERY CATCH IS TESTED FOR MERCURY (LESS THAN .1PPM MERCURY). Also, the ones in Olive Oil are even better but I go with water most of the time because I like to 10mg of BUTTER FLAVORED EVOO with each meal throughout the day (3 meals in total without the sardine meal so I can get the full 30G worth of the daily recommended allowance) as I strive to reach for a diet closer to the Mediterranean Diet. And no - I don't work for Safe Catch and have no reason to support them other than for their very good flavor, and the fact that their nutrition label numbers are among the best out there, but more importantly, the fact that they are tested to be less than .1 PPM per catch as opposed to not being tested at all.Another very good brand is SEASON sardines and you can find these at most supermarkets too.
