Good Survival Food, Best for the Car or Boat
Obviously I have not eaten this particular package I bought for survival food, but Ive had the same product before which is why I re-bought this. The package has individually wrapped portions inside. After more years sitting in my trunk than I can remember, I found that the individual inner wrappings were coming apart and there were oils on the wrappings. The outer wrapper though kept it all fresh. I'd say that once you open the outer wrapper, you're pretty committed to eating everything inside. But I still have uneaten portions of my last package in my cupboard I wouldn't be afraid to eat.The survival bars taste great, like an oatmeal cookie but with the density you would expect from a concentrated foodstuff. To my surprise, they still tasted moist, probably from the oils. It was a bit crumbly, but it did not disintegrate in my hands nor taste like eating pressed sawdust. These come recommended by the U.S. Coast Guard as survival rations, with decent nutritional content and calories. I keep them in the Get Home Bag in my car. Unlike Met-Rx (which are the most AWESOME protein bars), these don't melt when your car gets hot. These taste better than all other survival bars I've had. While you should drink water with these, they don't dry out your mouth. If you're looking for survival rations to keep in your car, boat, plane, or Bugout Bag for the emergency you hope will never happen, these are a good choice.

Tastes GOOD!
I've had friends and co-workers ask me why I have these bars in my car. I've even been called "one of those crazy preppers" by a couple of people I know. What I tell these individuals is that I want to try and be prepared for whatever happens. Floods, fires, blizzards or other situations where have this type of food might mean the difference between surviving or dying.Every winter you read in the newspaper or hear on T.V. about someone or a family who got trapped on a back road or elsewhere in the snow and it was days before they were found. BUT....I don't recall any of these stories where the trapped people had any prepackaged foods and/or bottled water in their car to survive off of.Ever hear about a hunter, hiker or camper who got lost and was near starvation when they were found? Or worse. These bars aren't bad. I initally ordered one pack of these bars just to see what they were like. After all, I'd rather eat something that tasted good as opposed to eating something to just keep me going (think MRE's)These were a little heavier that I expected but no so heavy as to be a burden in my day pack. The wife and I tried one of the bars and, to our surprise, they tasted pretty good. Luckily, we both like coconut. They were chewy but not sticky if you know what I mean. Kind of like a granola bar but with a bit more "body."After our "taste test" I ordered some more of these to keep in both of our cars and in the day packs that we both keep in our cars. I call it a day pack as opposed to a "bug out bag" because our "bug out bags" are kept at home and hold a lot more things than just basic supplies.Bottom line, these bars taste good, don't weigh too much, don't take up much space and are shelf stable for five years (or maybe more) and will help keep you alive and in pretty good shape should you ever be caught in a bad situation.Put a couple of packs of these in your car along with a few bottles of water and a couple "space" emergency blankets and you should be set should you ever be caught in a bad situation.

Decent Tasting
This product comes in 2 vacuum sealed packages with 18 individually shrink wrapped bars. Each bar is 200 calories and an unopened, sealed package has a 5 year shelf life (falls dramatically once you open it). These are small and easy to stash for a bug out bag, an emergency kit in the car or on a boat, or even in closets in your house. When I got these, I decided to open one of the packages up just to get a taste to make sure I wouldn't gag or anything. They taste like plain shortbread cookies (they have coconut in them so if you're allergic, this isn't for you). They are very dry, which you'd expect with the kind of shelf life they have so definitely have water on hand. All in all, the taste isn't bad so it's not like you'd be on the verge of death before being able to stomach them. Since I opened one of the packages, I've actually had a few as snacks. The package indicates that, if you're trapped on a boat out to see, you should eat one of these every 6 hours. If you're active, one every 4 hours. That might work for my 8 year old son, but since I'm quite active, 1200 calories in a day isn't going to do it for me. I suppose if I was in a really tight spot, I could deal but expect to stock more of these than what the math would tell you that you need to have. Also, if you can, I would recommend not depending entirely on these beyond a short term emergency. If you are in a high risk area (I'm in the hurricane zone in South Florida), you will want to stock up on other items also. And again, make sure you have water to go with these.Overall, I would recommend these.
