Works as a direct replacement for X599 .. a bit differrent but no modification needed
My GE Profile required a WR9X599 but they are no longer available new anywhere. I installed this without modifying the coiled sensor on it and it has worked perfectly so far. Now that I know it works I'll order an OEM WR9X599 part just because quality may become an issue. To install I just cut off the old sensor tube that runs into the freezer. Very easy.

Will replace GE WR9X570
My refrigerator requires a GE WR9X570 for temperature control. That part is no longer available from the manufacturer, and basically all that's available are used versions. At the time I'm writing this, there is an eBay seller offering this for $195. I think you'd have to be crazy to pay that amount of money for a part that you could otherwise easily substitute, like this one. This model was a direct fit (I did have to adjust the capillary tube) and works perfectly in my 20 year old GE refrigerator. The cycle rate is not adjustable, but in this application it need not be as it works perfectly at the factory preset.I'll give it five stars because it does what it's supposed to do. The unknown is its longevity. That remains to be seen.

It works, but the material and manufacturing quality is not as good as the old one
This WR9X499 does replace my 26 year old Hot Point / GE WR09X0499 thermostat. The electrical connector lug size is the same. I encounter two minor problems:1) When I try to connect the green ground wire, the connecting tab on this new unit broke off. The welding was not strong enough. I soldered the ground tab back on.2) The screw size is a little different as commented by another reviewer. I put the thermostat metal tab in a vice, added a bit of WD40 to the screw holes, and used the old screw to rethread. This worked only because the metal used in the new thermostat is much softer than the old unit. If you choose to do the same, be sure to use the vice to secure the metal tab and NOT the body of the thermostat when tapping. Otherwise the metal tab will bend.

Worked well on older discontinued Frigidaire
Replaced thermostat on 1990's Frigidaire with most parts discontinued. Matched up perfectly and works great.

Too low of temperature control.
Temperature controls at too low of setting. Had to adjust below 1 to keep from freezing food in fresh food section.

Question about Capillary Tube Placement
1. For this cold control to work properly does the end of the capillary tube have to touch the evaporator (maybe clipped to the evaporator), or should the end of the capillary tube just stick out into the air?2. Is the item NEW?

Inexpensive replacement that is better than more expensive items.
This item is a near equivalent, inexpensive replacement for obsolete and discontinued GE part WX9X10016. Tube is a little shorter but it works well after being installed and tweaking the temperature to desired setting over the course of a few days (slightly to left of midpoint setting on the temperature adjustment). So far, so good. The more expensive thermostat didn’t work and couldn’t be adjusted to the desired setting (way too cold).

Replaced for X599 .. working so far w/ no issues
Worked like a charm on my GE 15 yr old refrigerator. The capillary tube is bit small on this compared to original WR4X599 .. there were reviews and recommendations not to use x499 as a replacement for x599. But it’s not available now. So I took chance. So far it’s running well for last 2 months!
