Hayward W3C500 StarClear Cartridge Pool Filter, 50 Sq. Ft., Gray

Perfect replacement for same model over 20 years old.

I first tried to save some money & bought an off brand for half the price, but when vacuuming the pool a lot of stuff blew right back into the pool due to cartridge inside fit to loose to the filter housing.Returned that one and purchased the Haywrd filter, no stuff got past filter and back into pool.With In a day my pool was clear again.Well worth the extra expense.

I ordered this cartridge filter to replace one just like it that I’d ordered almost to the day, 4 years ago.I guess that’s a decent life span for this type of filter. The reason I’m having to replace it is because it developed a hairline crack on the manufacturer seam where the drain knob is located. Other than that this make and model has been good. Also, the reason for only 4 stars is because when my new filter arrived it had no cartridge filter in it and it says that it’s supposed to be included. I called Dohennys directly and they contacted the manufacturer to have the filter sent out right away and to report it was missing in the shipment.

So far it's okay filter, you only have 1 option for inlet from pump, which is opposite the outlet, most other pumps give 2 for pump inlet, fittings for pump inlet and outlet should be o ring type fittings for DIY, AS FAR as automatic air discharge you still have to open the purge valve and close it, not automatic at all, a very good filter comes with the pump, the cover gasket is excellent (use oring lube to make it last), put a large cover over the filter retatiner to pro tect from the sun, you're all set, also you can get filters easily some you can not!

Original one was over 30, maybe 35 years old. Started last year with blowback and seemed weak. I already replaced the motor about 2 or 3 years ago. Now it circulates brand new .I would not compromise and buy a different product. Hayward is king.

The media could not be loaded. Works great as designed. I vacuum my pool twice a week and it has never clogged up on me. Then again I do wash the filter every other week. Not sure if thats an overkill but I like to keep in clean. I do want to mention that it is made out of plastic so be careful when bolted it down, you can damage it. Other then that I think its a great design and all the pool companies out here must think the same because they all seem to use this filter or the next model up. I have it paired with a Hayward 1.5 horse power pump and together they work great.
