Gotta love Barnett
This is the Kevlar clutch kit for the V-Star 650 family. Barnett's kit has 6 steel plates, one master plate (plate #1 in Yamaha lingo), 7 friction discs and five springs. You'll need a new clutch cover gasket, too. It shouldn't run more than $10 from any stealership. NSR Tech did a nice YouTube video about changing the clutch on a 650 V-Star. The differences between their video and the Barnett kit are: don't sand the steel plates as you're replacing them, not reusing the old ones; don't soak the discs for 24 hours, 10-15 minutes will do; there's no alignment notches on the Barnett friction plates, that's okay as you don't really need them. Other than those points, the video can be followed step-for-step.Keep one thing in mind: facing the front of the bike, look at the front cylinder exhaust pipe. Two bolts hold it on. The bolt on the right, as viewed from the front *-does not-* come out. Only the nut comes off. The left bolt *-does-* come out, nut and all. Yamaha made it this way, so don't panic when only one bolt comes out. The pipe slides out easily with this arrangement, even if you've got crash bars. You don't need to completely remove the header pipe. Just loosen it and swing it far enough out of the way so you've got free access to the engine case bolts.Once installed, this clutch behaves much better than the stock unit. It makes the friction zone (gray area) wider; slow-speed control is amazingly easier than the stock hair-trigger clutch. Barnett's springs are also stiffer than Yamaha's, so there's practically ZERO chance of having clutch slippage. As a side-effect, those springs do make the lever a bit harder to pull. If you don't want or like this, you can use stock springs instead.PS: Clean your carb jets!

... doing the clutches this winter worth every penny I recommend using the new springs that come with the kit ...
Finally got a chance to use the bike after doing the clutches this winter worth every penny I recommend using the new springs that come with the kit it gives it a whole new feel. The directions were Not the greatest, but installation wasn't hard using my motorcycle manual and using a Youtube video for a reference. saved my self a ton of money. Would buy AGAIN.

No more slip
Installed in a 06 v star 650,which seem to be prone to clutch slippage, not with this clutch.

install was really easy. excellent replacement for the original clutch
install was really easy. excellent replacement for the original clutch. It definitely increased the "friction zone" of the clutch lever that most people complain about with the Vstars. The friction zone starts nearly at the fully clenched position. it will take a bit of getting used to since I rode the old clutch for 6 years.

A little better
It didnt work outstanding, at least not on my wife's v star classic 650. It is alot better than the stock, but for the price i expected alot more.

work better than OE
Very please with it. Everything works just as expected. Friction zone increased, work better than OE. One thing it would be better is that it did not come with any instruction but some online/youtube video did not show the adjustment on the adjusting screw and jam nut. I could not find the gasket part number for my bike, 2008 V-Star 650 Classic, Gasket # 4vr-15461-00
