Delicious Japanese sticky rice!
I’m not a rice connoisseur or anything, but I’ve been cooking a lot more Japanese food recently and wanted to get a decent rice for myself. It cooks perfectly in my rice cooker every time after 3 rinses. It’s fluffy and sticks together like I expect it to. And it’s pretty tasty! I usually make onigiri out of it, or top it with some furikake if I’m eating it with a meal. It seems pretty fresh (both look and smell), and since I’m storing it in a rice storage container (highly recommended) it should stay that way. It’s a little more pricey than I’d like to be spending on rice, but I only cook for 2 so this should last a while. I’ll be buying it again when I need to replenish my supply.

OMG it's gooooood!!!
If I have to pay over 2 dollars a pound for rice.....this is the one I choose. The very best rice I have ever eaten and delivered to my door. I hope it doesn't continue to go up or I won't be able to afford any more of this. Wow, it's good!!!

Not my favorite California grown rice.
California grown Sasanishiki is not my favorite rice in flavor and texture. The bag arrived in immaculate condition. The rice appeared to be fresh. I can only guess that it's new crop rice since American rice only comes with a best by date rather than a milling date. There wasn't a high proportion of broken rice. The rice grains appeared mostly clear. There were no bugs or debris. Overall it was a solid quality bag of rice that I would expect to pick up in any decent grocery store.Perhaps the 3 star review is a bit harsh, but I genuinely didn't like the flavor and texture. I can have the same size bag of Nishiki for ten dollars less, and I find that variety of Calrose to be tastier with a better texture.

Delicious Japanese variety grown in the US
This rice is delicious. It’s a new improved Japanese varietal (sasanishiki) but grown in California. The improved variety is very short grain, with excellent chewiness and bite and a subtle flavor, very similar to what is standard in Japan these days.

Smelled and Tasted Like Soap
This smelled like soap when opened, and tasted like laundry detergent. I'm sure something got into our bag of rice.

Spoiled by real Japanese short-grain rice
I spent a few years studying abroad in Japan and got hooked on a lot of the local cuisine, not the least of which was the serving of rice with every meal. I've never been a fan of "American" white rice so upon returning to the States, I found myself jonesing especially badly for some authentic, Japanese, short-grain rice. Understandably, importing rice from Japan is phenomenally expensive and real, short-grain rice of any origin is extremely hard to come by in the middle of the Rocky Mountains. Thankfully Amazon saves the day with their selection of JFC's California-grown, hybrid, short-grain rices. I wasn't able to get a bag of the "Koshihikari"-derivative (Nozomi Super Premium Short Grain Rice, 15-Pound) because Amazon didn't know if they would get more in stock, so I settled for the "Sasanishiki" (Yume). A lot of the grains are broken and whitened (presumably from rough milling and heat), but it cooks fine and tastes great. It's only been a couple of months and I'm almost done with it already. I plan to try the Nozomi variety next, but I think this is going to become an expensive habit.

No more $2 cheap rice from grocery store
I thought $30 for a bag of rice is expensive, but upon researching at local Asian markets, this product sells at an average of $27 for 15 lbs, so $30 including shipping was awesome. When I received the rice, I had to try it with a bottle of salmon cavier I purchased from Costco for $10, the rice was soooooooo good. I ate rice everyday, but the other day I had to go back to the $2 rice to see the difference, big difference, nothing compares!I bought Koshihikari this time around, I wonder if there is any difference with the sasanishiki. If you love rice, you'll love this!
