Great collection
This book is a hard cover collection of the first dozen or so issues of The Walking Dead comic book. The issues are put together one after another so as to give you one long running story. For those of you who have watched the show or are just looking for the print form that the series was based on, this is the way to go! The comics are released in black and white with only the covers being done in color. At the back of this hard cover compendium, however, are all of the art used for the covers in full color. They are arranged without the title and price, (that the original covers had), so you just get the art there. The reason I say this is the way to go is the comics will end up cost you a great deal more to collect. If all you are after is the story, you can save half the money getting these compiled books. A word of forewarning, though, the story contained in the comics is not the same as that done on the show. Kirkman, the writer of the comic, collaborated with the writers of the show to get them to write something that was somewhat similar in many ways but vastly different in others.I love this series! The comic book is one of the grittiest, craziest stories I've ever read. The writers do an absolutely brilliant job in hooking you from issue to issue. So many times, I found myself awake, several hours when I wanted to go to bed, insisting on just one more issue before I crashed. In this story, noone is safe from harm. You will at once hate it and love it as it twists you around and around. You grow to like a particular character only to see them put through things you never thought possible in a comic!

TV to Comics
As a fan of The Walking Dead, I actually discovered the series, like many others, through the TV show. At first I didn't want to spoil the show for myself by reading ahead in the comics, and I still basically am trying to uphold that idea. However, I did decide to read the comics at least up to where the show is currently at.I saw the numerous ways to purchase the comics, either in big books, individual issues, digitally (yuck) or in book form. The reason the book form grabbed my attention was for two reasons. I really enjoy the hardcover aspect of the books, and more importantly, the book contain full size, color covers for each of the issues contained in the book. Rather than collection issue by issue, I felt this was the more economical and easiest way to not only get all the issues, but also the big draw of individual comics...the cover. That being said, the comic will draw you in, just as the TV show does, and I will say there are plenty of reasons to read the comic, even if you're caught up with the show. There are many moments that differ between the two mediums, many of which will shock you when you first read them in the comic. If you are a fan of the Walking Dead, comic books, zombies, or the horror genre, I highly recommended checking out Book One to get you started!

Best Comic Ever.
I've never really been into comics but after playing the walking dead game 3 times on iPad I had to check out the books and the show.Though I haven't seen the show yet.I was never really into zombie stories or movies but I loved this.I just love post apocalypse books and movies something about just fascinates me.But this book was amazing it came a day before it was due so thanks Amazon. But the story/stories were get I feel in love with the story and the characters and after the amazing cliffhanger at the end of book one I'm anxious to start book 2.This books come at a amazing value for only $20 even though I got books 1&2 for $42.I decided not to go with the compendium because I heard a lot of complains about how difficult it was to hold and how they didn't come with any covers or bonus materials. But I'm glad to say this book comes loaded with extras. You get all the cover art from issue 1-12,the covers for volume 1&2,and even a short Christmas story featuring Morgan and his son.Which I have to say I love and I really hope that they join series soon.I loved book 1 and can't wait to start book 2.I have to sy that I did enjoy volume 2"Miles Behind of Us" more than volume 1 "Days Gone Bye."I would definitely recommend this to anyone who's interested in checking out this series it a great way to get caught up quicker, which I'm hoping I can do.So for $20 I definitely recommend it.

Reads like a Movie
I have picked up the individual comics at my local comic book shop (Golden Apple in Los Angeles). I liked the gritty feel of the black and white illustrations but felt that I would have to go back and buy the individual issues just to catch up. Then I saw this massive hardcover and decided to purchase it. Wow, amazing and engaging. This is a zombie chronicle to rival many films out to date (resident evil/day of the dead/28 days later). It is similar in that the protagonist wakes up to the fact that the world is overrun with the walking dead. But what makes this story interesting and unique (although it is similar in this respect to 28 days later) is that the focus is on the humans who have survived and the things they are willing to do to save themselves. Its definitely psychological and realistic in terms of how living in a world of zombies would affect the average person. Its a descent into depravity and banality, but entertaining and graphic.Im buying the other two issues and starting to collect the individual comics now.One thing though is that while the first half is drawn by the amazing hand of Tony Moore, the second half is drawn by Charlie Adlard. Their styles are somewhat distinct, but both work amazingly well. Personally Im more of a Moore fan but both artist are great. This is a zombie story at its best.
