Works well
This is a real convenient knife. It is easy to extend the blade to use and then retract it for safety. It is also easy to change blades and the knife has convenient storage for extra blades.

A modern classic!
With all the hoopla going on about utility knives these days, I gotta say these Stanley 10-499 knives are both modern and classic. Easy to replace blades, carry a bunch in the handle, slim to slide into a pocket or pouch, reliable. I've been using these things for decades and never had an issue with any of them. This one purchased for my nephew, gearing him up as a new homeowner.

This works as intended.
This is a great razor knife. I use it very often, and it outperforms the other brands. The blades are exquisitely sharp, and the feel of the tool in hand is very easy to grip. It's not too heavy but it is a satisfying weight. The blade extension is adjustable for different needs. Opening packages is a breeze. I also used it to apply window film, and the edges cut beautifully.

Great knife, with 1 problem
I like the knife, feels heavy and sturdy and satisfying. But mine has 1 problem, the quick release doesn't work right. You have to open it up and place the blade in the caddy firmly to get it to retract right.I'm glad Stanley kept the screw, because then I'd be "screwed." For about 10 bucks, it's not worth really trying to return it or complain.Good knife, even if I got unlucky with quality control on mine.

Quick access to sharp knife in seconds
This quick change carpenters knife is the best available in my opinion. Kept one in pocket throughout long maintenance career. Always was able to have a sharp blade handy in less than a few seconds.

Poor manufacturing process.
Remarks about difficulty in changing blades? Believe them. The photos showing the yellow plastic were taken after trimming the worst of the plastic left over from injection mold. The blade carrier couldn't lie flat so it got bent. There's my thickness measurement -- .03". Three hundredths of an inch. Possibly worst of all was excess material at the catch holding the extra blades tray. That had to be before it open. Why was that so bad. The single screw was probably tightened with a power tool, bending the blade carrier and jamming the blade extend/retract mechanism there was also a plastic tab that had to me removed (said so, right on it), but breaking it off left material to jam the it. So I couldn't get to a blade that enable me to get to a blade!I used another (better) knife for that. But I had been able to get I would I'd still have been using a dangerous without a holder. An obviously unsafe practice.

Best knife
They are junk but best junk available. Blades in the handle and works good enough. Try other brands but this is it for me. Just works reliable.
