I wanted to stay with domestic products and was a fan of Fisher and Garrett. I tried a newer Whites machine and was looking forward to their new MX Sport since it sounded like something I would enjoy using. Sadly, it had some teething issues which put me off purchasing one. I had the money saved up and now I was itching to get into a newer machine, but which one? I had read, heard and watched plenty of YouTube regarding different machines on the market. The Deus was always up there and I never really found anyone knocking it other then the price. I just kept telling myself it's not made in the USA so forget it. Well being made in France isn't all that bad I decided and finally I started looking at the Deus more seriously. I wasn't looking to spend this much and had originally opted to purchase the light version of this machine. I liked the fact that it was easily upgradeable and I could purchase a control unit at a later date if I desired to do so. Well after debating with myself for days on end I finally decided to go for this setup. It was nice of Amazon to allow me a full year of interest free payments so that sweetened the deal. I was floored at how light and agile this unit is once it arrived. The fact that I could put it together and leave it that way was even better. I love how it collapses down to a manageable size in seconds and not having to deal with cables is a blessing to say the least. I charged up the coil, headphones and control box and headed out. I decided to try an area I had been hitting for the past decade. I didn't expect to find much since I was convinced I had cleaned out all the good finds by now. Nope, not even close! First swing and I hit on a Mercury dime. The rest of the day I hit coin after coin. I was in total disbelief that I could have passed over so much with previous machines. Due to the fact that this is so light and easy to swing I took more time in wooded areas and could get deeper into the underbrush without tangling a coil cord or headphones. The weight or lack thereof is just amazing. I am getting older and it was becoming a chore to swing a detector for a few hours. I tried a buddy strap and different techniques but my neck and back would always start to bother me. I spent 6 full hours the first day out with this machine and didn't even know it. It's that light. I've now been out every weekend for the past month and going again tomorrow. This machine has rekindled my desire to detect. I love that the software is upgradeable just by downloading to my computer and then to the control unit. I really enjoy how I can now carry the control unit on my wrist or in a pocket and even just use the headphones as the controller. It's so versatile compared to other machines and so well thought out that I can't imagine what the heck took me so long to finally get one. Even a beginner would find this an easy machine to start with. I honestly can say that if you were to get in to metal detecting today with the serious intent to stick with it yet had no idea what to purchase then take a serious look at the Deus. The presets are excellent for a novice to learn on and grow with. The tones are crisp and clear and easy to understand. The display is easy to read and backlit along with being customizeable. You can configure to your hearts content as you learn the machine. If you want to do beaches, woods, fields or even urban exploration then this machine can handle it. Only if you are serious though since this is a lot of money to spend for something that will sit in a closet and gather dust. I went the old school route and would buy a machine only to outgrow it and want something new. If I factor in all the money I spent over the years then this machine is a bargain. I wish it was available 30 years ago! I am truly happy with this machine and can't imagine a reason to have need of anything else in the foreseeable future. The rechargeable batteries are easily replaced and even if you are faint of heart it can be done for you at a reasonable cost. The warranty is 5 years and 2 for the batteries. I did also purchase the water kit since this being a wireless machine needs an extension antenna from the coil to communicate with the headphones or control box. It is easy to install and remove. I do some limited searching in streams or on the shore so be aware you will need the kit if you plan on submerging the coil. I could go on for hours about the attributes of the Deus but I'll leave that up to you to decide. Watch reviews and instructional videos on YouTube and you will see what a versatile machine this is. If you are starting out and looking to upgrade to a proper machine then don't hesitate like I did for years. Just purchase this machine and be done with it.
