**Q: Are the valves monel or stainless steel? --or something else?**
A: Judging from the looks of them and the excellent valve action, I'd say they were monel.

**Q: Is this a true Bb Cornet or a pocket-sized?**
A: Full size cornet plays well happy with mine..

**Q: What mouthpiece comes with this?**
A: The horn instructor I got my first few lessons with said it was an English bugle-style mouthpiece. Sorry I can't be more specific than that--there's no brand or other identifying information engraved into it.

**Q: Will it take trumpet mouthpieces?**
A: NO!

    Great Starter Horn!

I bought this cornet for $250 in order to learn old school New Orleans jazz; I've been playing it 30-60 minutes a day for the past 5 months. Overall, this is a high quality starter instrument, ideally suited to someone who wants to dabble in brass instruments. This instrument is also well-suited for someone in need of a cheap but decent horn for his or her school band. The valves can be a bit sluggish, as was mentioned in one other review, however, with frequent oiling and proper maintenance, valve speed has become a rather minor issue for me. With that said, it should be noted that this instrument is not professional quality. It does, however, provide excellent value for the price. I highly recommend it for beginning and intermediate horn players.

My brother, who's in a nursing home, is very happy with his new Ravel Cornet. He especially likes its bright tone--- and manages to play it, in spite of his emphysema and no teeth!
