Overall great, but bolster may not be perfectly square
I've now made two of these. I have found them to be very nice quality and consider these a good value! There are two things I have found:1. Your knife, as received, will NOT be anywhere near as dark/contrasty as these pics suggest. You may well want to etch them to make them darker. HOW one does it can be found online; I used muriatic (hydrochloric) acid mixed 50/50 with distilled water (!!always add acid to water, not water to acid!!), and etched it for about 20 mins. That resulted in a lovely etching.2. The bolsters on both knives had the same small imperfection; they are not at perfect 90 degree angles to the tang, so you will need to do some adjusting/fitting....plan accordingly!! Definitely not a huge issue.You will be proud of what you end up with!

Katsura makes beautiful blades!
As a custom knife maker I buy blades from Katsura often. One of my customers wanted a 7-in Santoku knife as well as a 5 inch that matched. I could get the 7-in from Katsura's website, but I found the 5-in here and they sure enough match.

Blades met all expectations
The blades were delivered as pictured in the description and were easy to finish with custom handles. The blades are very sharp and hold a good edge. Attached is a picture of the finished blades.

Good without the high price tag
This kit was very nice. Extremely sharp out of the box. The handle pins that came with the kit were actually pretty good quality and not some really cheap stuff. The Knife pattern was beautiful! The knife that I received however had a small line of excess metal most likely during shaping that stuck out on one side of the blade. I had to sand it off to smooth the blade so the look got a little distorted...hence one star taken away. Overall this was a really good buy. I will definitely buy other kits the company offers.
