## Description

The M.O.P. Book: Anthology Edition is the updated and vastly expanded second edition of The M.O.P. Book, a groundbreaking manual for resolving bedwetting (nocturnal enuresis), daytime pee accidents (enuresis), and poop accidents (encopresis). Triple the length of the first edition, the new volume is for parents who are tired of waiting for their child to “outgrow” accidents — who think they have “tried everything.” The pediatric urology team at Mayo Clinic calls M.O.P. “incredibly effective.” Parents call it “life changing” and “a life saver.” If your family is worn out from your child’s struggles with accidents, you will be grateful for The M.O.P. Book: Anthology Edition. M.O.P. stands for the Modified O’Regan Protocol, a regimen named for Sean O’Regan, M.D., a pioneer in bedwetting research. The four-phase regimen, based on a combination of enemas and laxatives, has been modified by pediatric urologist Steve Hodges, M.D., of Wake Forest University School of Medicine. Published research shows M.O.P. is the only reliable solution to bedwetting and daytime accidents — far more effective than medication, bedwetting alarms, or Miralax. M.O.P. is based on a simple, proven fact: bedwetting is caused by chronic, severe constipation. Stool piles up in the rectum, pressing against the bladder; only when the rectum is cleared out on a daily basis can it shrink back to size and stop aggravating the bladder. The M.O.P. Book: Anthology Edition not only updates the first edition, offering Dr. Hodges’ revised recommendations in great detail, but also includes an entire second book, Answers to 52 Questions About M.O.P. formerly sold only as an ebook on the author’s website. The anthology also includes tracking calendars for parents and children, safety guidelines and step-by-step instructions, plus “The Physician’s Guide to M.O.P,” created for parents to hand to their medical professionals. The Anthology Edition offers new insight into: •collaborating with your doctor and your child •adjusting the protocol if your child is not progressing •minimizing the odds of relapse •managing M.O.P. on vacation The M.O.P. Book: Anthology Edition builds on Dr. Hodges’ acclaimed first book, It’s No Accident, also written with veteran health and parenting author Suzanne Schlosberg. Dr. Hodges and Suzanne also have collaborated with illustrator Cristina Acosta on three related — and very clever! — children’s books, Bedwetting and Accidents Aren’t Your Fault, Jane and the Giant Poop, and Dr. Pooper’s Activity Book and Poop Calendar for Kids.

Review: This book is a LIFESAVER!!! - I cannot adequately express my gratitude for this book and how it has helped my family. Very long story short, my son started exhibiting signs of chronic constipation at age 2.5 (namely stool accidents/stool leakage), except we didn't know what was going on or why he was having this and it was very disruptive to our lives. I eventually figured out with the help of Dr. Google that this was a sign of constipation, tried some at-home remedies which had zero effect, and took him to the pediatrician. At the time I didn't know the significant difference between chronic and acute constipation - turns out neither did the pediatrician. He was treated for acute constipation, i.e. put on daily Miralax, also had several Miralax clean-outs. This all just made him worse. The pediatrician was stymied and recommended just staying on ever-increasing doses of Miralax. He was on Miralax for *months* (which I now know made his recovery once on M.O.P. much harder, since it made him much worse than he already was). Fast forward through hours and hours of online research and eventually finding this book. This wonderful, amazing lifesaver of a book. This has been my bible for the last six months. Several months after buying, the updated edition came out, which I bought as well. They have both been worth their weight in gold. I have been treating my son (now 3.5) with Dr. Hodges' approach for the last six months and we are finally seeing the light at the end of the tunnel. The authors encourage having patience with the process, which indeed is so important. And the tweaking of the protocol as we went along... oh, the tweaking. So much tweaking to individualize and figure out what works (and just as importantly, what doesn't work) for my son. Dealing with this problem has been frustrating and isolating, but this book gave me the tools I needed to be empowered to do something effective about it. I am incredibly thankful for not only this book, but for Dr. Hodges' dedicated focus in this field. The M.O.P. Book should ABSOLUTELY be required reading for any provider treating children and adolescents - I have read account after account of providers not recognizing the problems of encopresis and enuresis for what they are and not knowing/understanding effective treatments for it, and this was my own experience as well. So incredibly frustrating. Can't say enough good things about this book. Thank you, Dr. Hodges and Suzanne Schlosberg!
Review: Dry nights are finally our reality - "Bedwetting and Accidents Aren't Your Fault" explains the connection between constipation and bedwetting in a very simplistic and plain language way. The book walks the reader through the chain of circumstances that leads to chronic constipation, "poop accidents" and bedwetting, and the very manageable and common sense strategies that families can use to resolve these problems. The strategies outlined in the book have been a Godsend for our family and we are now seeing consistent progress in resolving my teenage daughter's bedwetting. It has given us all hope that this is the long-term solution we have been looking for, and I am so happy to say that I can see a big change in my daughter's confidence that her bedwetting will be fully resolved in the foreseeable future. One of the many nice qualities of this book is that it breaks down complex concepts about constipation as the cause of bedwetting in a way that children, teens and adults alike can understand, and provides practical solutions that are supported by science and practice. The light-hearted illustrations and annotations make this book a very readable resource that should help parents engage their kids in working together on the lifestyle changes that lead to success. I highly recommend this and plan to buy a copy for our primary care practice so that other families who are struggling as we did for so many years can have the information they need to stop the bedwetting.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ A fantastic book for kids and parents alike
*by #***M on March 16, 2015*

As a pediatric physical therapist, I have been treating kids with bladder and bowel incontinence for the past 4 years. Without a doubt, this book has changed my practice for the better - giving both myself and my patients a resource that is unparalleled in its simplicity and content. Since it was published in December, I have used this book with each and every one of my patients. The illustrations easily demonstrate what were challenging concepts to convey to kids and parents and I LOVE the page explaining what happens to the bladder when the bowels are full. The stretched-out t-shirt analogy to the constipated colon is genius! The simple fact that there is now a book about leakage issues immediately helps put kids at ease, knowing that they are not alone in dealing with these challenges comes as a huge relief. This book also empowers kids in a way that helps them to realize they can take charge of their bodies in ways that are positive, inherently improving their quality of life - which is THE most important thing. I highly recommend this book to any child or parent who is struggling with bladder or bowel leakage issues - along with Dr. Hodges' 'Its No Accident' book.
