**Q: why is the under side wet or slimy? Is the countertop wet to start with or some how the water seep through the mat surface?**
A: For that price ($15 on 03/15/2016 for just a mat, who's kidding who? Does it come with free Netflix?) you might as well get a cheaper $11.47 real drying rack with a base you can occasionally drain into the sink.
