Strands are not given as much attention as other forms of training, but they are very effective in: 1) post recovery training; 2) building strength without taxing the joints so much; 3) taking a break from heavier training with weights etc. These are sturdy and can be used together with other strands to increase resistance. In addition, they can be folded to increase resistance even further. They are very versatile, which is a distinct advantage over weights. While strand/band training has been around a long time, the difficulty is in finding quality bands for serious training. Most of the bands out there are weak, novelty items. It was very difficult to find quality bands. Therefore, I decided to write a longer review. I freakin love this thing. The quality of the construction is great (for a giant rubberband anyway) and it's perfect for everything I need it for. I've had experience using them in a gym and decided to get them for my own use. This time around, I got the orange band solely for rehab work on my shoulders. This is perfect for internal/ external rotations. As for pull-ups, I would not recommend getting the easier bands. If you are really struggling to get one pull-up, do negatives and use longer rest period once you can get 1 rep. Taking 15 to 30 lbs off your bodyweight isn't something that'll get you better. Do pulldowns to get better at pull-ups. I would highly recommend the bigger bands for bench, squat, or deadlift work.
