Chrome or Nickel? Spokes are steel.** A: The key to success is to get things clean... not just "eat off it" clean, but atomically clean. I used this to brighten screw heads in gl1000 carbs I was rebuilding, and scrubbing with detergent and acetone wasn't enough. I did succeed though when I used scotchbrite and sulphuric acid, then plated. Nickel plate is a bit less expensive (I use Nickel Sulphate and boric acid with a bit of epson salt and saccharin) - a pre-plate of copper (sulpheric acid and copper sulphate) is recommended. These products are cheaper but should be buffed when you are done, so they will take more screwing around to get nice (although Caswell's pre-mix may be better at self-leveling to get a bright finish than my home-mixed brew). I have them because I like to mess around with plating, but the copy-chrome worked well once I got the parts truly clean ("pickled" in plating language), so that's likely your best avenue. I have to say I got good customer service from Caswell... when my first attempts at copy-chrome didn't go well I got a response in 24 hours. I am a big fan of actual customer service so, even though the product is expensive (all plating is expensive), I do recommend the company and would buy from them again (I am contemplating learning about electroless nickel). yahoo! **Q: I have 1984 pro class CMC 20" steel bicycle rims with some rust spots and small flaking spots, would this product work for touch ups??** A: This product does not chrome metal but will nickel coat small areas with practice. Can be polished. **Q: would i be able chrome plate a pistol with this product?** A: You can use it to touch-up scratches or surface imperfections in chrome plating but not for plating the entire firearm from scratch. **Q: I have a chrome plated steel mesh used to hold an intake filter on a motorcycle, it is small. Is there a way to submerge the piece instead of spot plating?** A: I only have limited experience with plating. The CopyChrome plating that I did turned out well but it was only spot plating.
