Some of the original joints were virtually none existing soe were about 8mm. As I was finishing off with a 10mm pointing trowel I needed a tool that fitted the angle grinder to open up the joints. This has worked really well although there is some wear on the tool as can be seen in the photo.however as the tool is 50mm long and I'm removing 20-30mm of the old mortar (as per building regs for re-pointing) it isn't a problem. The wear has occurred due to the high temperature generated buy some of the harder bricks. Also, the flats slot for my adjustable wrench was too tight so I had to file the tool to allow it to be nipped up in the grinder.
