I am not an expert when it comes to analyzing the history and inner workings of US imperialism. It is, however, of great interest to me.I have read many books on the topic by Chalmers Johnson, Noam Chomsky, Howard Zinn, Stephen Kinzer, and John Bellamy Foster. One of the great acheivments that these writers have in common is making very complex topics, such as the military industrial complex or the Cold War, accessable and understandable for non-experts like myself. They did this by using clear, easy to understand language; by providing a comprehensive context on a given topic, complete with historical background; and often by using text book style explainations for difficult concepts.This book claims to be the most comprehensive collection of writings on the military industrial complex (MIC). This excited me as I have always been interested in a in-depth expose of the MIC. Many commentators reference the MIC, but few have gone into great detail explaining the origins and function of the MIC. I therefore decided to give this book a change, even though I was not familiar with very many of the authors names, it was self published, and that I hadn't read any reviews. Unfortuneately, I would have been better off not taking my chances, as this book was terrible.It was a random collection of essays that seem to do everything but give a clear and comprehensive explaination of the MIC. It certainly referenced the MIC, but with no more depth then there is in the acronym, e.g. "the MIC is all around us," "Jefferson would be horrified by the MIC," "What can we do about the MIC," etc.If you are looking for a comprehenisve and scholarly analysis of the MIC, skip this book.
