Thanks **Q: Why is there a need for a rivet for a 6x6 post** A: The end bracket for each slat is connected with a linkage. This link is screwed in to each bracket during the last step. If you center each bracket on a 6x6 you will not be able to access the bracket to insert a screw. The brackets are just over 4 inches wide so the post will cover the where the linkage is connected.
