A little more Knife than Fever Ray

*by M***Y on Reviewed in the United States on November 6, 2017*

I've only listened to the album a few times now, but I'm loving it. Each song was enjoyable on the first listen, which is a very good sign. There are a few songs that really bring me back to Karin's debut solo album as Fever Ray, but many have a more upbeat feel reminiscent of The Knife's earlier albums. A few of the lyrics were a little unexpected on the first listen (I'm looking at you, "To the Moon and Back"), but considering what feels to be the overall theme of the album, they are fitting. I don't often purchase music anymore, because streaming is so readily available, but I gladly spent the money to add this one to my collection.

Karin Dreijer continues to evolve into one of the great electronic musicians of our time

*by F***I on Reviewed in the United States on August 10, 2018*

This is strong stuff and not for weak-minded listeners. It is ferocious. Ms Dreijer is a unique talent in electronic music, both vocally and in synthesis. She has used a lot of percussive synth voices in her previous CD as she does in this, but "Plunge" incorporates more sequencers/arpeggiators. The constantly shifting sequencer line in "To The Moon And Back" is absolutely wonderful - and a great hook. There is not as much noticeable electronic voice manipulation as in the eponymous "Fever Ray" CD but she makes up for that with strong, strange vocal tones and lyrics like nothing else I've heard. I'm going to classify this as industrial. It'll take me a few more listens to pin this down.In comparison, this is much better CD than the last NIN CD I bought, "Add Violence". And she is in that class of solo electronic musicians now - Reznor, Bill Leeb, Edward Ka-Spel and a lot more that I'm too addled to remember. The bastard children of Brian Eno.As for the videos? She reminds me of no one so much as Till Lindemann and Rammstein.

Fantastic - glad she is back with a new album

*by H***R on Reviewed in the United States on October 30, 2017*

fantastic, overall I feel this is more aggressive than the original from 8 years ago (wow, seems like it was last year). Dramatic, haunting and mysterious parts. When the first beats start playing you can tell immediately it's her. My favorite pieces are Falling and Red Trails at the moment. Still growing on me.
