A: I would think how HOT the item you would put on your mat.  Since you can splice two ends together with heat, it might melt.  I would place a hot pad under the pot to be sure.  I made table place mats for eating and Love the way they turned out.  Hope this helps

**Q: Can this be used outdoors for plant hangers?**
A: I see the strength of the yarn and I really think you can used it for outdoor purposes.
