For my home in the past, I always used the name brand rechargeables and their included charging devices. Problem there is you need to charge in pairs and that introduces problems. I have a mix of uses too, wall clocks, xbox controllers, children's toys, flashlights, etc. Eventually I was getting batteries that would be drained after only a short while. So I bought this Ansmann battery charger. I've been using it for a over a year now and I absolutely love it. I'm getting 2x-3x the life out of a pair of charged batteries now. I use the discharge feature for all batteries I put in there too, so all batteries come out fully charged. Couple that with the fact that each battery gets charged to it's max individual capacity and you've got a much better experience with using rechargeable batteries. One negative I found was the USB port on the side is only active when the charger is plugged into an electrical outlet. I had imagined that you could put a bunch of AA batteries in there then use it as a battery back, nope. It doesn't allow you to use the charger as a battery pack. The charger does a great job charging them quickly, but I haven't had any luck with the discharge feature. All of my batteries are identical and seem to go through the discharging cycle, but never start the charging cycle after the discharge is complete.
