From then on, I raided libraries finding every Asterix book I could lay my little fingers on, and when I reached high school, the French versions of the books were given to us as a fun way to become familiar with the language.(I didn't like that much. I didn't want to struggle through trying to understand Asterix, I wanted to read through and laugh at it. But it was still a better idea than the rest of the stuff they threw at us.)This edition of the book is still excellent, and still funny. It's missing a few details compared to the original, as some other reviewers have commented, but it's not the kind of thing that new young readers will notice is missing. If you're an adult looking to pick up a copy of the book you treasured as a child, then it may strike a little sore; but for new readers, this really can't come highly recommended enough. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Good book and fun to read *by on Reviewed in the United States September 9, 2015* This is a really fun book. It is educational too. It teaches kids geography and they don't really know they are learning. It is funny with bright colorful pictures. It is a fast read however it is a MUST reread. Kids reread it again and again. The kids have not seen this book at all in the stores or at the school library. So it is fun to buy this and show them something that they can't buy just anywhere. I would buy this again and other books by this author and in this series. It's especially a treat for Asterix fans to see the slightly less-refined characterizations, and those who are new to the series should enjoy this introduction to the members of the little Gaulish village who are still holding out against the Roman invaders -- with the help of some magic potion. The Asterix stories are full of silliness, cartoon fighting, and puns, and "Asterix the Gaul" is no exception.
