Storage is always sold in base 10, so 1GB = 1,000,000 MB (Mega Bytes, not Mega Bits, 8 bits = 1 byte). Computers (still) do everything in ones and zeros (either a bit is off or it's on), divide 1,000,000 MB Unformatted by 1024 equals 976 MB Formatted. Divide by 1024 for like to like (Bytes to Bytes) for formatted capacity, multiply by 8 to go from Bytes to Bits, and divide by 8 to go from Bits to Bytes.
