When or if it ever really sold for that much, I don't know. I suspect that if it did, it was back when the 500mm was the worlds largest folding saw? They could charge a premium for that distinction. Now that the 650mm is out (for about $300), this one loses that honor and the price drops. Just my thoughts though. It looks like the price dropped dramatically after a day or so. Maybe that was the intention? That way they could honestly(?) say it's discounted from that price? **Q: what is reasonable set???** A: SET is the distance from each tooth from left to right. NO SET would give a smooth cut but be very difficult to use. Some SET makes the strokes easier because you will have a little air space in the cut making the push/pull easier. (the previous answer makes no sense) **Q: Is this the Katanaboy 500??** A: Yes - the "500" denotes the length of the blade, 500mm. **Q: Does this come with the carry bag?.** A: The full katana boy saw came with carry bag.
