It definitely helps cut down on food spills and keeps the feeding area tidy. However, after using both the cat version and the small dog version, I ended up preferring the dog one slightly more. The bowls in the dog version are deeper and hold more food, which worked better for my needs. Just like with the other one, I use this only for food. I keep water separate with a cat fountain since cats usually prefer their food and water to be in different spots.
